Bartolo Colon was a workhorse for the White Sox in 2003.
Doug Benc/Getty Images

Six years later, Bartolo Colon is returning to the South Side, SI.com has confirmed.

Pending a physical, the White Sox and Colon have agreed to a one-year contract. The deal was first reported by FOXsports.com.

Colon, 35, started seven games for the Red Sox last season, going 4-2 with a 3.92 ERA.

In 2003, Colon went 15-13 with a 3.87 ERA for Chicago, logging a career-high 242 innings with nine complete games.

If healthy, Colon figures to compete with Clayton Richard, Jeff Marquez, Lance Broadway and Aaron Poreda for the rotation's final two spots behind Mark Buehrle, Gavin Floyd and John Danks.
