Free-agent utilityman Alex Cora has agreed to a one-year contract with the Mets, SI.com has confirmed. The deal, said to be worth $2 million, was first reported by the New York Times.
Cora could have a chance at regular playing time, as the Mets have questions about starting second baseman Luis Castillo.
Cora batted .270 with a .371 on-base percentage in 179 plate appearances with the Red Sox last season. Both figures were his best since 2002, when he was the quasi-regular shortstop for the Dodgers.
