        <body>I agree. This deal makes him very tradeable. He's got 3 seasons left before being a free agent, and two of them are now locked in at $9M/yr. Much less a risk for the team picking him up.

That is, unless he puts on another 20 pounds. If the guy doesn't get in better shape, he is a candidate to be washed up by 30-32 years old &amp;amp; have bad knees.

He could be quite the player if he dedicates himself to the game. He has some speed and athleticism when he's in shape. But last year he didn't work hard in the off-season, came in soft, played well overweight all year, his slugging avg dropped by 111 points, hrs were down 16, and his hitting was streaky &amp;amp; inconsistent all year.

Maybe that was due in part to being just 23. I think it will be very telling to see what shape he is in come Opening Day.</body>

        <body>paying him $9M for two reasons. 1) to shut him up and 2) get him out of arbitration for when they trade him this season. He wants out of Milwaukee more than Gary Sheffield did so they are trying to get something for him.</body>

          <body>Did anyone else wonder why a club that would offer $6 million for one year in arbitration would go $18 million for two years in a contract? I can see why Fielder, who wanted $8 million for one year would jump at $18 million for two, but do not see why the club would do that. Seems to me the logical number in light of the arbitration positions would have been $14-15 million for two years.</body>

        <body>Scott Boras represents Fielder, that's why he turned down a 5yr/$60 Million deal earlier in 2008 when they signed Braun to that 7 year deal. At least we don't have to listen to him whine through spring training that he's underpaid. I hope his new deal includes a clause that pays him more if he loses 50 pounds</body>

        <body>I get that 24 is his age, my question is who's his agent.

     &amp;quot;The powerful slugger originally submitted an arbitration figure of $8 million while the team submitted $6 million.&amp;quot;

     and his contract is &amp;quot;Fielder's new Brewers deal is for about $18 million.&amp;quot;

So Fielder asks for $16 million over 2 years the Brewers offer $12 million over 2 years and he ends up signing for $18 million. What?

I want his agent working for me when I go for my next raise.</body>
