Just read that Garland just sign with the D-Backs. I wonder how much more that creap Boras
is going to up the ante for Perez. Garland sgin for 6.25 mil your telling me the Mets can't afford that. Garland has pitch over 200 inning the last fore year. He would have been a good add to the team. Come on Mets Finish what you started let's not stop now.

The bottom line is the Mets need starting pitching and another bat. Stop counting your pennies you bunch of cheap ba$***ds and go out there and get what you need before it's too late.
They can't count on Delgardo having the same kind of year he had in 08. And if any of the starters get hurt they're screwed.
Do the right thing by your loyal fans and get what this team needs.

You lost on Derrick Lowe to the hated braves, I know Perez can be inconisitent but he is young and has a lot of upside. The Mets do not have a real deep farm system to be passing on free agent pitchers. Just sign Oliver and continue to choke in September

I disagree that the Mets have had a bad off-season. They've made their bullpen one of the best in the league, both by addition (K-rod, Putz, Green) and subtraction (Heilman, Schoenweiss), without giving up any significant parts of last year's team (which was only a game out of first place, in case you forgot). They signed Redding for the back of the rotation and Garcia to a minor-league deal to provide insurance. Both signings are good and should allow Neise another year in AAA. Frankly, I'd be happy enough going to camp with a rotation of Santana, Pelfrey, Maine, Redding, Garcia, with Neise at AAA and ready to step in if anyone gets hurt. Add Perez or Sheets to that mix and it'd be very strong.

That said, I only want Perez back at the right price. 5 years/$60 million (his asking price) is double what he's worth. 3 years/$33 million or so is probably about right. Otherwise, I'd rather give 2 years to Sheets than 4 or 5 to Perez.

ok, so they upgraded the pen. thats a start. what about the lineup? of all the blown saves over the last two years, how many were at home (where they could have still won it in the bottom of the inning if they could only push another run or two across)? the mets should definitely get another bat to boost the offense. there is no backup for delgado at first base, is there? and i'm not too thrilled with the fact that theyre going into the season with tatis as the left fielder.

The Mets are good at this point, in my opinion. They have a pretty good chance at Perez anyways, and with K-Rod, Putz, and Redding added to their rotation, people forget that these three guys are the 1-2-3 punches that the Mets needed, and they got. So when someone, "oh wah, wah, I'm so mad the Mets are gonna stink again"...DON'T forget about these two, the Mets might not have a Sabathia, or a burnett, but who SAID we needed those?
My god, I can not believe these comments are coming from Mets fans. Do you guys not think about the next few years. FM will be an all star right fielder for us in 2 to 3 years. By then Murphy will bean every day player, why on earth would we want to bring a TO player in like Manny. We finally have a bullpen that should give us 5 to 10 more victories this year. I would love it if we could bet both Perez and Sheets. We know at some time someone will go down with an injury. If you remember the past 2 years when we have been playing for the playoffs, we have been sending guys out who shold not be pitching in the pro's. If we could have 6 or 7 strong pitchers, we would be ready when guys go down. Heck, make the guy who does not make the rotation, the long reliever. You can never have too much pitching, and getting Sheets would cost 1/4th as much as Manny. And potentially you would be bringing in a number 2 starter.

The Mets had been hopeful to land free agent Derek Lowe earlier but were surprised when the rival Braves outbid them by $24 million, landing Lowe with a $60-million, four-year contract. Perez, 27, is eight years younger than Lowe, though not quite as consistent.

Mets GM Omar Minaya would love to import Perez, so the Mets are not likely to take one of the other pitchers unless he feels his chances for Perez are gone.
