With Jon Garland going today to the Diamondbacks, the Dodgers emerged as the heavy favorites to land free-agent lefthander Randy Wolf. Both pitchers were being pursued by both NL West teams.

Wolf, a native of Canoga Park, a Los Angeles suburb, appears fairly likely to return for a one-year deal. He pitched for the Dodgers in 2007, going 9-6 with a 3.73 ERA. The Mets also showed some interest but appear focused on Oliver Perez.

Wolf might have some regrets if he does sign a one-year contract, as he was reported to have turned down a lucrative three-year offer from the incumbent Astros that was reported to be anywhere between $22 million and $29 million -- though he took less to pitch for L.A. two years ago, as well.

Wolf went 12-12 with a 4.30 ERA for the Padres and Astros last year.
