Right-hander John Maine and the New York Mets agreed on a one-year, $2.6 million contract, SI.com has learned. The deal, which also includes a $25,000 bonus if Maine reaches 200 innings, helps the sides avoid salary arbitration.
Maine earned $450,00 last year, when he went 10-8 with a 4.18 ERA in 25 starts. He spent two stints on the disabled list and did not pitch after Aug. 26 because of a bone spur in his right shoulder. He had the spur surgically removed Sept. 30 and is expected to be ready for spring training next month.
