The Angels appear to be closing in on a deal with star free-agent outfielder Bobby Abreu, sources say.
Abreu, who hit .296 with 20 home runs and 100 RBIs, should significantly boost the Angels' offense and represents a decent fallback position after they failed to sign star first baseman Mark Teixeira.
ESPN.com reported tonight that the sides are in serious talks after SI.com said the field had been narrowed to the Angels, Braves, Mets, Pirates and Reds. FOXsports.com pointed out that the Angels cleared space by releasing righthander Nick Green.
