Rick Ankiel and the Cardinals settled at $2.825 million, avoiding arbitration, SI.com has learned.
Ankiel, who hit .264 with 25 home runs and 71 RBIs, was an interesting case as that rare player who transformed himself from a star pitcher into a fine hitter. Ankiel made $900,000 last year and was in his first year of arbitration.
Ankiel's hearing had been scheduled for today.
