Cooperstown-bound center fielder Ken Griffey Jr. is in contract talks with the Mariners as the sides discuss a possible reunion for the team and their greatest player ever. Griffey's agent, Brian Goldberg, agreed that discussions were becoming "more specific'' in recent days but suggested nothing's close to being set yet.

MLB.com reported that the sides were "nearing an agreement,'' and the Seattle Times said talks have "heated up'' and a deal "appears to be imminent.''

Goldberg said Griffey, who was hampered by a left knee injury last year when he hit .249 with 18 home runs and 71 RBIs for the Reds and White Sox, is playing golf today at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am.
