Dodgers general manager Ned Colletti said he isn't setting a deadline on the Manny Ramirez negotiations -- not yet, anyway.
"I wouldn't say there's urgency as of today," Colletti said late Monday from Arizona. "At the same time, it could become (an issue) -- not as of today, though."
Ramirez and the Dodgers are staying in close contact, but there's no evidence the sides are close to a deal yet, either. The Dodgers are known to have offered $45 million over two years. The Giants are the one other team known to be in the bidding, but Giants folks have stated several times that they intend not to get carried away with their bids, perhaps a reaction to the harsh criticism they've received inside baseball for giving Edgar Renteria $18.5 million over two years before the bottom fell out of the market.
"We continue to talk," Colletti said by phone from the Dodgers' new spring site near Glendale, Ariz. "I wouldn't say we've made progress. Hopefully, the conversations will lead to progress."
