The best part of a future mock draft is determining the order of teams. If you care to argue about that or the players I selected, bring it on:
  • 1. Raiders: Darren McFadden, RB, Arkansas - McFadden ran for 182 yards against LSU, which is basically an NFL team. Character questions, but these are the Raiders.
  • 2. Texans: Jake Long, OT, Michigan - After Matt Schaub gets sacked as often as David Carr, Houston realizes it's still got a problem.
  • 3. Vikings: Brian Brohm, QB, Louisville - Strong running game, and no passing game translates to 4-12 for the Vikes in 2007.
  • 4. Lions: Calais Campbell, DE, Miami - I was tempted to put the top WR on the board here, but Matt Millen may not be around to run the draft.
  • 5. Buccaneers: Sam Baker, LT, USC - Will this be the first pick of the post-Gruden era?
  • 6. Dolphins: Chad Henne, QB, Michigan - The ‘Fins make up for controversial '07 pick of an Ohio State WR by taking a Michigan QB. You have to love the symmetry.
  • 7. Cardinals: Derrick Harvey, DE, Florida - Pass-rushers are always valuable.
  • 8. Titans: Kenny Phillips, S, Miami - Phillips gets the edge over Antoine Cason.
  • 9. Cowboys (via Browns): Tyson Jackson, DE, LSU - Strong D-lineman for Wade Phillips' defense.
  • 10. Falcons: Limas Sweed, WR, Texas - Tempted to go QB here, but only if the Falcons are bad enough to get Brohm.
  • 11. Bills: Gosder Cherilus, OT, Boston College - Love those BC linemen.
  • 12. Packers: DeSean Jackson, WR, California - Finally a playmaker for Favre. Just a year too late.
  • 13. Giants: Steve Slaton, RB, West Virginia - The new Tiki.
  • 14. Rams: Glenn Dorsey, DT, LSU - Dorsey is LSU's defensive star, but falls a bit because of lack of NFL size (6-foot-2, 299).
  • 15. Chiefs: Keith Rivers, OLB, USC - If the Trojans dominate this year, all their prospects will look good.
  • 16. Jaguars: Mario Manningham, WR, Michigan - They want to take over the Lions' title of team that takes the most WRs in the first round.
  • 17. Eagles: Lawrence Jackson, DE, USC - Hard to tell if the Eagles will be at 7 or 27. All depends on Donovan McNabb.
  • 18. Panthers: Early Doucet, WR, LSU - Doucet benefits from how well the LSU WRs taken this year play.
  • 19. Steelers: Paul Oliver, CB, Georgia - I wasn't sure whether to put the Steelers at No. 28 or No. 8. All depends on Mike Tomlin.
  • 20. Jets: Frank Okam, DT, Texas - Not necessarily an Eric Mangini kind of guy, but might fill need at nose tackle.
  • 21. Ravens: Shawn Crable, LB - Can play multiple positions Adalius Thomas-style.
  • 22. Redskins: Vince Hall, LB, Va. Tech - The ‘Skins actually have picks this year!
  • 23. Seahawks: John David Booty, QB, USC - Matt Hasselbeck isn't getting any younger ... or any more hair.
  • 24. Patriots (via 49ers): James Laurinaitis, LB, Ohio State - Passed on LBs early on in this draft.
  • 25. Cowboys: Adarius Bowman, WR, Oklahoma State - Will learn from a Terrell Owens just like Dwayne Jarrett will learn from Keyshawn Johnson in Carolina. (Meaning this is T.O.'s last year in Big D.)
  • 26. Chargers: Dan Conner, LB, Penn State - Conner is probably a better pro prospect than the Bills' second-round pick Paul Posluszny.
  • 27. Bears: Chris Long, DE, Virginia - Howie's kid.
  • 28. Broncos: Ray Rice, RB, Rutgers - Critics say he's too small, but is any running back really too small?
  • 29. Bengals: Andre Fluellen, DT, Florida State - The NFL now requires at least one Florida State defensive player to go in the first round every year.
  • 30. 49ers (via Colts): Antoine Cason, CB, Arizona - I'm not thrilled with Cason's performance at the 2008 combine.
  • 31. Saints: Colt Brennan, QB, Hawaii - Undersized system quarterback. Reminds me a little of a former Purdue quarterback.
  • 32. Patriots: Aqib Talib, CB, Kansas -- I'm assuming Asante Samuel plays for New England in '07 and then departs.

Try to keep up there Manzano. We'll slow down if you need us to.

Andrew, very well done with the exception of two errors.

1. The Saints will be drafting 32, not 31 because they will win the Super Bowl (but thank you for having there in the first place)

2. They won't draft a QB with that pick. By the end of next season, they are going to have to really address the linebacker or cornerback position. They put a one year bandaid with both spots with Brian Simmons and Jason David. Next year, they will have to replace Mike McKenzie and find a rush OLB, which will not be an option in free agency since they went on such a spending spree this year.

where is mike hart? he was a candidate for heisman last year and will surely be one again this year. He will definitely be a first round pick.

May 2, 2007  02:32 PM ET

#29--FSU is by far the best NFL pipeline, especially when it comes to defensive players......where are the FSU haters at? I believe the 'Noles have the most former players on NFL rosters and have held that position for more than a few years, facts are facts........Scalp 'em!

May 2, 2007  02:34 PM ET

Two things about the Raiders, they definitely won't be picking first and if they did it wouldn't be a RB. If anything it would be an O lineman. If the Raiders pick first next year because of their record I'll send you $100.

May 2, 2007  02:36 PM ET

come on, the cowboys are going to draft mcfadden
2 1st rounders, jerry jones went to and played at arkansas, and julius jones' contract runs up after this year. mcfadden is dallas bound

May 2, 2007  02:38 PM ET

You do realize that Wade Phillips's version of the 3-4 really doesn't employ 2-gapping DE's, right? Assuming that the Browns do that well next year (highly unlikely) and the Cowboys are only drafting at 10, they would likely take a WR like Swead. Also, bear in mind that the Cowboys will have 2 first round picks and would likely look to move up to #1 to take McFadden. It shouldn't be any secret by now how much Jones covets him.

Colt Brennan for Heisman and 1st Round Pick in 2008. Go Warriors!!!

May 2, 2007  02:41 PM ET

The Titans have Chris Hope at SS and drafted a FS in the first round this year. Why on Earth would they draft a safety in the first round next year???

May 2, 2007  02:42 PM ET

No way raiders are worst again. That will goto KC, Det., Wash, Bucs..If the raiders were to be #1 it wouldnt be a running back it would be traded(they couldnt pay a #1 2 yrs in a row and if they did it would be the monster tackle from USC)..Bush(#4 this year) will be rookie of the year. 800 yards plus after he starts in the 4th game of year..

May 2, 2007  02:42 PM ET

The Raiders WILL be picking first, however I disagree on the Vikings picking 3rd. Not because of their record but because they'll no doubt forget to turn in a selection.

May 2, 2007  02:42 PM ET

Dallas will package its picks and make a run for McFadden.

May 2, 2007  02:44 PM ET

It's really disturbing to me that this guy has a column at SI when he doesn't even know important details about the teams he's covering. Any casual fan of Dallas or San Diego (or really any halfway serious football fan) knows that the one feature that sets the Phillips 34 apart from other 3-4 schemes is that he DOESN'T HAVE HIS DE'S 2-GAP. Seriously, who is this guy???

May 2, 2007  02:46 PM ET

No way are the Redskins picking in the twenties, they are going to be horrible next year

May 2, 2007  02:47 PM ET

Pittsburgh will have the 32nd pick next year. Big Ben will be back strong, and they will beat New England and overated Tom Brady in the AFC Championship along the way.

May 2, 2007  02:50 PM ET

Dude what bold predictions.. Who's in your corner Ms. Cleo..? LOL!!!
The Fins will be AFC East runner-up to N.E.!! I wish people would at least give Beck a chance and do not already forsee his doom.. He may shock the world.!!!!!

May 2, 2007  02:51 PM ET

One who ever made this (probably a no name loser) doesnt know what there talking about. The Eagles at 17...........yeah right! Try in the high twentys, low thirtys or even 32. Pats = OVERRATED. And the woman (lol) who made this fake mock draft wannabe is trying to be Mel Kiper Jr but he's not. Hahahhahhaaa.............Lame

May 2, 2007  02:52 PM ET

this is garbage....how long did it take him to do this...2 min? He did not research just wrote some crap...come on SI, push your writers a little harder..

May 2, 2007  02:52 PM ET

WHy do you think the raiders will pick 1st? They have definetly upgraded the team wouldnt you agree? KC with its lost O line and no QB(Coyle or Huard) they will bomb. Wash I think will be the worst. They have no O line portis will be hurt by week 3. Terrible team. Raiders will be at least 6-10 next year..

May 2, 2007  02:53 PM ET

This is certainly better than Peter King's 2007 mock draft. He had Troy Smith going third to Cincinnati. He' SI's football expert.
