He does it all? lmao

He does nothing but gun all season long. He's a terrible defender, he averages 6 turnovers per game, and he gets next to zero assists with a very good post player on his team.

Yeah, he rung up a very bad defense with a hot night. That does not put him anywhere near guys who actually make their team better instead of dominate the ball at the expense of his teammates.

i'm sure this guy didn't watch the game. It was completely obvious to anyone watching that he scored within the offense most of the time and gave it up when he should have. He only shot the ball 22 times, and two of those we as the clock was going to zero and he heaved desperation shots, one at the half and another for the shot clock.

Meeks can shoot over you or drive around you and he creates his own shots. Those are the same set of skills that made MJ what he was. I'm not comparing the two. I'm just saying Meeks has the tools. He's incredibly quick and he has moves that leave jock straps laying all over the court. Not to mention he broke the UK trey record from the extended trey line. He plays fantastic defense (despite what some might say) and he does a lot of the ball handling chores because UK's main weakness is at the point.

If Liggins develops into his talent level UK could go deep in March. They have the inside threat in Patterson which draws a lot of defenders off of Meeks. Shooting over 70% from the field will do that for a team. Meeks shoots a great percentage and he doesn't force shots. He lets the game come to him.

That's the desciption of a monster player IMO. He will go far and do well and so will the Cats with Meeks and Patterson leading the way. And UK has other talent. It just hasn't blossomed yet. The SEC better watch out because UK is just now growing into it's own and things can only get better. Gillispe jokes about waiting for a third scorer but they can find one at any time because there are talented players on the team besides Meeks and Patterson. If they do the sky's the limit.

MoriartySucks.

1. He has an overall TO per game of under 3 and only 1.5 since December. Those mostly come from the fact he is the main ball handler of the team anyway. Liggins still has more turnovers than Meeks and he rarely plays.

2. He's 4th best on the team in assists, Kentucky is 10th in assists as a team. Still not amazing but not that bad either considering no one player has a tremendous amount of assists personally.

3. Tennesse was the top scoring team of the SEC and 6th best in the nation, Meeks had no problem guarding their players. The 72 points that Kentucky kept them to is the lowest they have scored at home this year. Meek's defense is underrated he is really quite good. His stamina is also to be respected.

Does Jodie Meeks belong in the Player of the Year discussion?

The junior guard's 54-point explosion against Tennessee was easily one of the top performances of the season across the hoops landscape. Meeks amazingly scored his 54 points on just 22 field goal attempts, hitting 10 three-pointers and all 14 free throw attempts.

Remember, this wasn't Appalachian State, whom Meeks poured in 46 points against in December. And it certainly wasn't VMI, whose defense-is-optional style allowed Meeks 39 points in the season-opener. Tennessee has some serious athletes who can guard and block shots. But on this night, they were no match for Meeks, who broke UK legend Dan Issel's 39-year old school scoring record.

Meeks currently stands fourth in the nation in scoring (26.0) and first among power conference players. He is shooting 44 percent from three and 91 percent from the line. Along with Patrick Patterson, Meeks has led a talent-thin Kentucky squad to a 13-4 mark and a 2-0 start in the SEC.

Oklahoma's Blake Griffin and Davidson's Stephen Curry grabbed the early lead in the Player of the Year race, and Tyler Hansbrough will obviously get a serious look as the season wears on, but Meeks also will merit a look after this performance for the ages.

What do you think? Does Meeks belong in the discussion with Griffin, Curry and Hansbrough?
