The Red Sox have asked about Padres star first baseman Adrian Gonzalez. However, the Padres have been steadfast in refusing to discuss trading Gonzalez, a popular player from San Diego.

Boston has a decent stash of pitching prospects, plus one top slugging prospect in Lars Anderson, and could put together a worthy package. But the Padres just won't budge.

Victor Martinez remains in the mix for the Red Sox.
