The Blue Jays asked for a long list of prospects from the
Dodgers in exchange for Roy Halladay.
AP

The Dodgers checked in with the Blue Jays about superstar pitcher Roy Halladay but heard an asking price they deemed so high they've crossed Halladay off their list and are concentrating on improving their bullpen now. Orioles closer George Sherrill appears to be very high on the Dodgers' list.

The Jays asked for a long list of prospects -- as many as five or six -- according to a person familiar with the talks. The Dodgers have been active at trade-deadline time in recent years but couldn't take the asking price for Halladay.

It does appear, though, that the Jays are continuing to talk about Halladay beyond their self-imposed Tuesday deadline for a Halladay deal.
</intro>

Regardless of whether the Jays can afford Halladay, they aren't going to ADD any significant pieces in the offseason, Halladay has said he won't sign an extension and the Jays are a sub .500 team with him in the lineup.

As a fan, I hate watching teams build a nucleus only to lose it due to cost, like the A's with Mudler/Zito/Hudson/Giambi and recently Haren and Street.

But, Ricciardi worked to set this team up to compete by 2010 and they find themselves in 4th, a bad team. Halladay has been around for 12 years. Time to maximize the asset and build around Snider, Romero, Lind and Hill.

But remember, this is the same guy who couldnm't pull a Rios for Cain trigger.

He is slow on the trigger and has only seen his team compete when the Yanks took a dump.

Ricciardi only talks now to the New York and Boston media, I believe he forgets he works in Toronto and not the US....Ricciardi shouldve been fired 3 yrs ago, this so called 5 yr plan is now looking like 10...WEASEL

NO BRAINER: Halladay, V Wells and $50Million for Hughes OR Joba + Melkey Cabrera + 2 minor league prospects from the usual names.

If Toronto doesnt want to pay the money, they keep Wells and his ridiculous contract that they could save $60million on by getting out of (see above), and the new offer is: Hughes OR Joba + 2 Minor league prospects from the usual names.

Toronto could get out from the horrible contract and get prospects; how could they lose?!?!?

Good move not giving the Jays 5 or six players, no matter how much pitching we need. Damn that is half a team on any given day. Keep Scott E. and the other young pitchers and let them grow. Scott might have to pitch for us very soon anyways. We want to Win every year and I know that is not possible if we make a trade like this. GM Ned is doing ok right now, he is the smart one, not J.P. J.P. is about to be in hot water especially if he trade to the Sox or Yanks.
