Red Sox acquire C/1B Martinez from Indians

        <teaser>Cleveland has traded C/1B Victor Martinez to the Red Sox, SI.com has learned.

        <intro>
Cleveland has traded C/1B Victor Martinez to the Red Sox, SI.com has learned.

The Indians receive three young pitchers in the deal: right-hander Justin Masterson, lefty prospect Nick Hagadone and minor league right-hander Bryan Price.

The Red Sox also traded first baseman Adam LaRoche to the Braves (LaRoche's former team) for first baseman Casey Kotchman. Boston had just acquired LaRoche from the Pirates on Wednesday, July 22.

The Red Sox completed the deal for Martinez without having to part with either coveted starter Clay Buchholz or hard-throwing reliever Daniel Bard.

The switch-hitting Martinez made his third All-Star team this season and is hitting .284 with 15 home runs, 67 RBIs and 56 runs in 99 games. Martinez, 30, is a career .297 hitter.

This deal comes two days after the Indians traded reigning Cy Young winner Cliff Lee and outfielder Ben Francisco to the Phillies for four prospects.
</intro>

Rolen headed to Reds

        <teaser>The Blue Jays have traded third baseman Scott Rolen to the Reds, SI.com has learned.

        <intro>
The Blue Jays have traded third baseman Scott Rolen to the Reds, SI.com has learned.

Cincinnati dealt away 3B Edwin Encarnacion, RHP Josh Roenicke and minor league right-hander Zach Stewart.

Rolen agreed to waive his no-trade clause.

Rolen is batting .320 with eight homers and 43 RBIs. The Blue Jays included cash to pay part of Rolen's salary. Rolen has one more year left on an eight-year, $90 million deal he signed with the Cardinals. The 34-year-old Rolen is a five-time All-Star. He was the 1997 NL Rookie of the Year with Philadelphia and helped St. Louis win the 2006 World Series.

The 26-year-old Encarnacion led the Reds in errors last season with 23, and missed two months of this season with a chipped bone in his left wrist. He is batting .209 with five homers and 16 RBIs.

Roenicke didn't have a record in 11 appearances with the Reds. He had a 2.70 ERA in two stints with Cincinnati this season. Stewart was promoted to Triple-A Louisville during this season and had two saves in nine appearances.

In a separate deal, Cincinnati sent utilityman Jerry Hairston to the Yankees.
</intro>
