First-round picks from the 2005 draft have until Oct. 31 to sign contract extensions. Otherwise, they would become restricted free agents after the season. While Andrew Bogut (No. 1 pick), Deron Williams (No. 3) and Chris Paul (No. 4) already have landed new deals, Sporting News reports that three other top 10 selections won't be as fortunate:

With new general manager Rick Sund still trying to get a feel for his team in Atlanta, a source says that No. 2 overall pick Marvin Williams is not a candidate for an extension. Bobcats point guard Raymond Felton, with new coach Larry Brown still looking to size up Felton's role, is in a similar situation. Felton told SN earlier in the summer that he was hopeful that a deal could get done, but a source close to the negotiations said, "It's not gonna happen." No. 7 pick Charlie Villanueva, who will be starting at power forward for the Bucks, will be without an extension, too. "There has been no discussion of that from either side," a source said.

Neither of the guys mentioned have done anything substantial to warrant an extension rightaway. This is their contract year, so lets see if the likes of Felton and Marvin step it up.

Marvin, especially has been a huge disappointment.

Williams was ALWAYS overrated...from HIGH SCHOOL on! Felton does not have the "KEEP UM HONEST" Jumpshot a pont guard needs....NOT TO SAY he cannot develope it......TIME WILL TELL!

Ive seen better guys at my local Y with more of a jumpshot then Felton...these guys are paid millions of dollars to PRACTICE on their WEAKNESSES..come on..the LEAST they could do is IMPROVE..ITS YOUR JOB

LOL @ marvin being a bust......Because you are picked number 2 doesnt mean you automatically have to be a superstar....Marvin is a solid starter and SHOULD be in the future plans of the Atlanta Hawks.....He doesnt have the support to help him develop fast as a player, like most fans want.....

I agree with the consensus that neither of these guys have done anything that would warrant a contract extension. In Marvin Williams case, he was basically drafted for his potential and just hasn't really panned out. Felton is okay but I don't think he's serious about his profession, it seems that all of those number ones from Carolina in 2005 are having the same problem
