Brad Miller, SI

The Kings and Bulls have agreed to a trade, according to several reports. That's one of two deals for the Kings, reports the Sacramento Bee:

According to numerous league sources, a trade sending Kings players Brad Miller and John Salmons to Chicago in exchange for Andres Nocioni, Drew Gooden, Michael Ruffin and Cedric Simmons has been agreed upon and is pending league approval.

In a separate deal with Portland, fourth-year forward Ike Diogu comes to the Kings for Ruffin. The Kings are also expected to receive approximately $1 million in the trade with Portland.

The trades put their roster at 17 players, and it is expected that they will waive newly-acquired point guard Sam Cassell. They will need to make an additional cut as well to trim the roster to a league-limit 15.

The Kings are not only a bad team, but an expensive bad team that had a payroll of $69 million before this deal. At a time when they desperately need to improve their salary cap situation for the future, the Chicago trade saves them approximately $13.5 million in salary cap room for next season. It could potentially make them more relevant in the free agent market this summer or allow the payroll flexibility to be more active on the trade front after this season. Beyond next season, though, Nocioni's contract will add $6.9 million to payroll in 2010-11 and $6.7 million in 2011-12. Gooden, Ruffin and Simmons all have expiring contracts worth $7.1 million, $1.1 million, and $1.7 million respectively.

Diogu's contract is worth $2.9 million this season, and he will be a restricted free agent this summer. He was drafted ninth overall in 2005 and will follow in the footsteps of Shelden Williams as the latest frontline prospect the Kings hope experiences a revival while on their roster.

Hopefully this is only the first shoe to drop though, and Hughes and/or ballhog Ben Gordon can be packaged before the trading deadline to acquire another big man. Since Chris Bosh has openly said he won't return to Toronto after next season (when his current contract is up), the Bulls can make a deal (as Toronto reportedly is enamoured with Tyrus Thomas).

Bosh has not said a word about wanting to leave Toronto (nor has he said he plans to stay, so he very likely might be thinking that way). But the point is, he has not said anything. Please, please, please find me the quote of Bosh saying he won't return. Then your post may have some credibility.

<quoted-text>This is a bogus trade! We was better off trying to aquire Amare or Chris Bosh. Brad Miller and John Salmons? We coulda kept Nocioni and gave them Selfolosa or Larry Hughes. This was a bad move and Paxson really needs to resign! Nocioni was one of the few Bulls that played hard every night for us!</quoted-text>

Colangelo realizes that Bosh may not stick around - he's not blind to that fact - he's alluded to that in interviews. However, he's smart enough to realize that Bosh has not said he wants to go (or stay), and will press him on that issue this summer to figure out his play. Colangelo is a smart GM - he's made some poor moves since coming to the Raps, but I'm not sure many people would have done anything differently under the same circumstances. If Bosh won't commit to the Raps this summer, Colangelo will orchestrate a sign-and-trade, and get much more for him than Tyrus Thomas and an expiring contract. And I don't think Bosh is another McGrady (nor is Toronto's management as stupid as they once were) - he'll pick a few teams he'd like to go to, he'll be dealt there, and be able to be paid max dollars. It's in his best interest to play ball if he doesn't want to stick it out in Toronto.

If you want a seven footer that cant run or jump, but thinks he ia a three point shooter....than Miller is your man. From the Kings stand point I really like the deal. Nocioni I really like as a role player. And Diogu might become something down the road. The rest of the bums wont be around long. Cleared some cap space, and giving it our best dump effort to win that number 1 pick and get Griffin, who is an absolute BEAST! Where we stood we were going no where fast with the least talented team in the league.

Nocioni I really like as a role player. And Diogu might become something down the road. The rest of the bums wont be around long. Cleared some cap space, and giving it our best dump effort to win that number 1 pick and get Griffin, who is an absolute BEAST! Where we stood we were going no where fast with the least talented team in the league.

i think this does help us currently. miller is an actual 5, noah can be a back up 4 and that will be a lot less pressure on him. nocioni's contract is off the books and we can resign our current young talent, and frees up minutes for sefolosha. also, like someone stated, pretty decent amount of money coming off the books in 2010.

We still do not have any play makers besides rose and Ben. This actually made our team worst. Miller is old and and will not help.

The Cavs had been eyeing Miller, as the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports:

The Cavs had been in talks with the Kings for Miller for an extended period and up until yesterday were still weighing its merits. They had been doing a fair amount of background research on Miller and were considering how he might fit.

But they fell behind in the bidding when the Bulls offered a more competitive package and also were looking to take Salmons off the books. The Kings were reportedly also talking to the Knicks about Miller and seemed to be offering a better talent package than the Cavs, who refused to part with J.J. Hickson.

• Kings, Chicago agree on Miller-Salmons deal (Sacramento Bee)
• Miller off the table for Cavaliers (Cleveland Plain Dealer)
