This team made it to Round 2 last year and took it to Florida for 40 minutes of grit and determination. This team might be a little more talented, but obviously much less experienced. The matchup against Xavier should be interesting indeed.

Think again.

Purdue coach Matt Painter and three of his starters were obligated to attend a second-round news conference here Friday afternoon. Meanwhile, the rest of the Boilermakers sat on folding chairs in the locker room circled around a TV, ooohing and ahhing every big shot of Drake’s miraculous comeback to take Western Kentucky to overtime.

They also offered their own critiques – more informed, you’d have to assume, than those of us non-players. “Aww, don’t take that shot,” one Boiler shouted as a Western Kentucky player tried to shoot over two defenders.

The most amusing reaction, however, came about 10 minutes earlier while watching the end of Gonzaga-Davidson. When the camera panned to caveman-looking Adam Morrison in the stands, the sound in the room was what you might hear if 15 people simultaneously bit into a sour apple.
