Kurt-warner

Kurt Warner, who threw the Week 4 pass that resulted in Anquan Boldin getting knocked out and fracturing his sinus membrane, said he considered retirement, effective immediately, following the game. From Yahoo.com:

Sitting alone on the bus, praying under his breath while wiping away tears, Warner sent Brenda a text message that stunned her: This is it. I can’t do this anymore. It’s time to retire.

Recalled Brenda: “He meant, like, now.

Wuss. Put on your big-girl-panties and get out there, Kurt.

I think all of us have thoughts of giving up when we are really down. It's not if we get knocked down, but how we react after we have been knocked down. Warner had a natural reaction after he turned the ball over 6 times and then thought he might have thrown a ball where his receiver could have been very seriously hurt. But, he also got up and whooped some backside the following Sunday. Think he wants to retire today...me thinks NO! This is the kind of thing that makes movies there "Donnie" (can you see the perinial nut in the stands calling the QB names?-only to have the QB make the heckler look like a "wuss" himself?). It's easy to call names when no one knows who you are and you're in a safe place like the Internet. It's not so easy to get up after you've been knocked down. But Warner did...no thanks to the "Donnie's" of the world. Cangratulations to Kurt Warner and to Coach Whiz for keeping him in the game.

SHould have known you were from Pennsylvania with an idiotic comment like that.

grumble, grumble.... Touching story of coming back from adversity and all, but couldn't he have done it against a team other than my Bills? :(

Kurt's a class act all the way.

Grow up little child.

Kurt should not feel responsible in any way. Arguably, the only person that should feel that way is the coach for putting his players in that position that late in the game 21 points down. And even that is debatable, because I know I would rather lose by 14 than 21. As far as the players that made the hit, they should not feel bad. It was a fast play that just happened and they were doing their jobs. The hit would not have been helmet to helmet had the first tackler not made contact to change the angle.

I think Kurt is the type of person that we need in this world. He cares for everybody, regardless of there negativity, he is a class act!! Sounds like he feels responsible for the pass. He isn't responsible for the hit, he can't leave guys out to hang like that.

sorta agree, though it was the Cards defense that spelled doom for the Bills

Don't you have a cousin to bang?

As a former college football player and Tight End, I can tell you that the QB's know almost every time if they are hanging you out to dry. A TE's job is to handle tough hits and make tough catches in traffic (I had several ribs busted on a short crossing route). The point is, it's the QB's job to recognize defensive packages and blitzes. They usually know who has the best chance of being open before the ball snaps. Even NFL QB's are human and can make mistakes. Mistakes like this can result in paralysis or death depending on the hit they take. WR's trust that their QB won't throw to them if they are going to take that kind of hit. I think that's why Warner feels so baldy.

*badly*

October 6, 2008  05:13 PM ET

Easy... Like our buddy Peter King Said in his MMQB column, "Kurt Warner doesn't stay down for long".

We could all learn from the guy.

October 6, 2008  06:48 PM ET

Kurt Warner is one of the genuine good guys in the NFL. I've always been a fan of his.

October 6, 2008  06:49 PM ET

i can understand that

October 6, 2008  08:29 PM ET

I don't think the guy who hit Boldin meant to hurt him either. I think the guy mis-timed the hit. There are some guys out there, though, that are trying to hurt people.
I've never rooted for a Kurt Warner team, but he's alway been a top-notch guy and rooted for him as a player. I know he felt terrible, but You're nuts if you think any QB is intentionally leaving a player hanging across the middle. Face it, if every pass were perfect, these guys would have 100% completion rates, minus the occasional drops.

I just hope our Bill's quarterback will play in 2 weeks. This Losmann guy is killing the Bill's!

Awesome perspective. It makes me have a much better understanding of why Kurt felt like he did.

October 7, 2008  10:34 AM ET

Hmmmmmmmm ........ shouldn't we blame the Jets safety Eric Smith that illegally laid out Boldin to the tune of $50k and a one game suspension? Kind of like blaming the victim.

October 7, 2008  12:29 PM ET

Agree with many posters - Kurt Warner is indeed a class act.

I also have to say that Eric Smith did what he was coached to do and it wasn't intentional. I've watched it quite a few times and there wasn't anything he could do with his teamate arriving behind Boldin at that point. There are more flagrant fouls that don't get called every Sunday. Smith should win his appeal, although he likely won't.

October 7, 2008  01:26 PM ET

Well he might have felt bad about the Boldin hit but what about the hit on Edwards that was a cheap shot and I hope the NFL fines him
