Brett Favre has reportedly informed the Vikings that he will not return this season, presumably ending an unparalleled 19-season-career. Favre reportedly told Minnesota coach Brad Childress that his injured ankle is not responding as well to surgery as he had hoped.
The surefire Hall of Famer had one of his best seasons last year, with career bests in completion percentage (68.4), quarterback rating (107.2) and fewest interceptions (7), while throwing for 33 TDs and 4,202 yards to lead the Vikings to an NFC North title.
If reports of his retirement are true, this wouldn't be the first time Favre has called it quits. The 40-year-old signal-caller retired as a Packer after the 2007-08 season and as a Jet after the '08-09 campaign.
So, are you buying the reports that this is in fact the end of Favre's illustrious career? What are the percent chances that the notorious flip-flopper still finds himself behind center in the Vikings' opener at New Orleans on Thursday, September 9?

Hmmm... could it be he was missing being the center of attention - like a 2 year old? Throw a tandtrum and everyone pays attention!

Honestly, I'd be done if I were him...he's ambulatory, has kids and is still physically able to enjoy retirement. He's got a SB ring and finished with what could quite possibly be called his best season ever. I want him to stay, but I'd retire if I were him.

This is getting RIDICULOUS! How can anybody come to his defense after this???? It literally makes me sick.

Amusingly but unfortunately for the big sports media outlets, Coach Childress just told the local media here in Minneapolis that he has heard NOTHING from Favre about this and they just talked less than 24 hours ago. So thanks ESPN, SI, Fanhouse and others for posting another rumor without having any facts. Dumb****e$. LOL

OH MY GOODNESS, leave his ego alone, he's laughing at the complete frenzy he just created. He will most likely be back, but if he DOES actually retire, THANK GOODNESS. Have some dignity man, come on this is sooo foolish.

I'll believe it when Super Bowl rosters have to be locked in... And then I'll keep watching for Favre to unretire to be part of the halftime entertainment!

Nope. He'll be back.
He just doesn't want to take preseason reps now either. He'll be magically healed in September and the Vikings will bend over backwards to welcome him when the Rosenfels and Jackson combine to go 0-4 in the preseason with 16 interceptions.

Everyone will be skeptical...but, if I am a Vikings player or fan, I am pissed!!
Because this bonehead drug his feet, it kept them from going after a good QB in case.
Now, the Vikes will NOT make the playoffs and waste many of the careers of the good players that are there right now.
Tavaris Jackson is barely a 3rd string QB and now this makes GreenBay the easy NFC North favorites and puts Dallas and the Saints even further ahead going into next season.

Two things: 1) Glad it's the Vik-queens problem and 2) Can you spell HGH and the miracle cure that is surely coming in a few weeks?

I say he's under center within the next month. I'll believe he's done when a season passes without him playing at all.

Make it two and we have a deal. I can totally see grandpa putting us through this whole charade again next year, saying how much he misses the game, how better he feels now that he has spent a year away from the game, how he still feels he can help his team win, blah, blah, blah.
And you can bet your best dollar that Peter King will spend half his time covering the story, going to Mississippi twice a week for the latest Fa*** update, twittering on new developments ('Fa*** just went out to buy some toilet paper') until his fingers fall off.
Two years away from the game will confirm it. Not one.
