Two days after reaching into their past and bolstering their linebacking corps by bringing Roosevelt Colvin out of semi-retirement, the Patriots could be on the verge of doing the same thing with fellow linebacker Junior Seau. From SI.com's Jim Trotter:

A board member from the Junior Seau Foundation said today that Seau is in Foxboro, Mass., and speculation is the 18-year veteran could be on the verge of re-signing the Patriots, for whom he started 14 of 27 games the past two seasons.

New England coaches left open the door for Seau, 40, to return at the start of the season, but the sides could not come to terms on a new contract after Seau had offseason shoulder surgery. Seau has spent the past three months exploring business ventures and surfing in San Diego. But he always keeps himself in tremendous shape and as recently as Tuesday night at a foundation event appeared physically capable of suiting up again.

Won't make a difference.

desperation?

Two great moves in two days. Belichick obviously has the playoffs in mind. The Patriots are a walking ER this year but are still very much in the hunt, could probably win out the remainder of the season and steal the division title from the Jets in the tiebreaker. Great coaching job.

It certainly won't hurt. Once Thomas went down things started getting desperate.

And since both Colvin and Seau are familiar with things they can help right away if they can play.

Hell yeah baby. New England is going back to the Super Bowl. Bank on it.

Some experience to mentor the young blood? I'll take it.

December 4, 2008  06:27 PM ET

Are you gotta be kidding us (me) ninobrown33. Superbowl? At least you know football.

December 4, 2008  06:46 PM ET

Every time I see Seau in a Pats jersey I want to burn his Chargers one in my closet.

Oh come on. The Pats got LBs...big deal. Can they play corner, and cover receivers? 40 year old man who hasnt played in almost a year, a 31 year old who hasn't been the same since hip surgery hasn't played a year...Ty Law was their best bet at going deep into the playoffs let alone SB, and look how that turned out

December 4, 2008  06:59 PM ET

You've got to be kidding me. These moves smack of desperation. If they both had any gas left in the tank, they'd have been picked up by other teams by now. Look, Seau was great......in 1992, and Colvin? He was always a 4th or 5th linebacker that couldn't cut it. Why do you think he was not brought back until now? You Patsy fans really are a piece of work....it's like you've all been knock senseless right along with Welker. If you're bringing back former great players, why don't you re-sign Steve Grogan to back up Cassell, and hell how 'bout bringing back Andre Tippett to round out the linebacking core....hahahahahahaha....jerkoffs!

December 4, 2008  07:42 PM ET

let me guess ****, you a jealous pats fan wanna-be living in the land make believe who has to prove his loyality to the Nation by the Pats name in your own...talk about jerkoff! whenever your hometown, whatever that may be, has the success that we have come back and talk to me....I'll be waiting a long time.

December 4, 2008  07:43 PM ET

**** = **** in case you were wondering ****!

December 4, 2008  07:58 PM ET

Quit hating on the patriots. Jealous alot? Why are guys still hating on the patriots, there is no reason.

were we watching the same game? 13-10 with 5 minutes left in the third quarter and a muffed kickoff that completely changed the game. Or should we talk about the dropped touchdown before halftime? i would love to play the steelers in the playoffs and beat them in pitt. bank on that ****.
