Jeff is an underdog QB, has terrible mechanics and footwork when throwing, is undersized, plays like a third stringer at practice, and has questionable arm strength. But when the pocket breaks down and his feet get all happy during a game...he makes some amazing plays.

When game day comes he is a fierce competitor, an adrenaline fueled bezerking QB that can get it done (if those around him are ready to anticipate some very improvisational antics). He has a fire in him that drives him to succeed which elevates his marginal overall ability. If he were a soldier, I'd want him leading my squad in a firefight, because that little guy is ten foot tall and ferocious when backed into a corner. I suspect his strongest suit is that he processes information faster than most can, and can react on the fly.

Providing he doesn't overdo it in the weight room and hurt his back again (like he did in his last year in SF), he's a solid QB that should be able to start somewhere and win games. I WOULD DIE INSIDE AND KNOW FEAR IF HE WENT TO KANSAS CITY.

...all that said...GO RAIDERS! PLEASE! COME ON! I SAID GO! THAT WAY! NO! NOT THAT WAY! WHAT ARE YOU GUYS DOING???? DON'T GO INTO PREVENT! AHHHHHHHH!

Jeff Garcia is a very good QB. I don't understand why the Bucs don't let him hold down the fort for a year or 2 while they develop a young QB. Whoever signs this guy is getting a tough gritty who leaves it all on the field every week.

While Garcia may be a good candidate to become a solid backup somewhere, he may be like Kerry Collins, and unwilling to be a backup after being a starter. I guess it depends on how badly he wants to stay in the NFL, whether he'll take that snub or just retire gracefully. I'm not saying that he needs to retire, just that he may prefer retirement to being relegated to backup.

it's killing me how every one keeps wanting to give Minn..a QB, why can't they develop Jackson? I mean the kid appears in 9 games last year....has a 95. passing rating....throws 9 int 2....but I mean you've worked out a system that might work....you give the kid a chance and I think they might actually be good...hell that got AP get some receivers and you might have something.....I mean Garcia played in 3 more games....but his numbers are better for that reason 12 TDs 6 Ints and a 90.2 passing rate...what makes him such a great fit for the team or better yet why should he just walk into this Guy's starting spot? Just a question....

Noted Jeff Garcia nemesis Jon Gruden is gone from Tampa Bay, but it doesn't necessarily mean the Bucs want to give the veteran quarterback another chance. From TampaBay.com:

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have told well-traveled quarterback Jeff Garcia to move on.

Garcia, who turns 39 before the start of free agency Feb. 27, said Sunday night Buccaneers general manager Mark Dominik has informed his agent, Steve Baker, that the team did not want him to return for a third season.

"My time in Tampa has come to an end,'' Garcia said.

The Bucs signed quarterback Luke McCown to a two-year, $7.5-million contract last week, preventing him from becoming a free agent.

"I'm not under contract and I'm about to hit free agency and that means it's time again for me to just move on,'' Garcia said. "It is disappointing because I enjoyed the atmosphere and the team environment in that locker room...Change is needed at times. Sometimes it's how you tweak it, not change it. With a new head coach, they want somebody pulling the trigger that they can mold. Beyond that, I don't know why they're making the move.''

• Tampa Bay Buccaneers tell Jeff Garcia to move on (TampaBay.com)
