With a new head coach and a new general manager, change was inevitable for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. From TampaBay.com:
The Bucs sent shockwaves through One Bucs Place Wednesday by releasing 11-time Pro Bowl linebacker Derrick Brooks as part of a sweeping youth movement.
The team also released running back Warrick Dunn, receiver Joey Galloway, linebacker Cato June and receiver Ike Hilliard.
"We want to give our younger guys a chance to play,'' general manager Mark Dominik said Wednesday.
Four of the five players are in their 30's and June is 29.

No big loss--those guys are all washed up anyway.

I agree with Hilliard and Galloway, but there is no way they should have ever released Dunn or Brooks. They played their hearts out this year, and except for when they were injured (Dunn in the middle of the year and Brooks at the end of the season) they performed admirably. This is a sad day for Bucs fans everywhere and reminds me of when we lost Lynch and Sapp. I can honestly say that I have lost a lot of respect for this new front-office and have become a lot less of a fan.

They should resign Brooks - so he can atleast stay and retire as a Buc.

considering their younger players (Cadillac) keep getting hurt, Dunn was a great insurance policy. They've created a big hole in the middle of the defense by cutting both June and Brooks. Brooks is a proven commodity, and a leader on the team. He should be brought back before someone else scoops him up.

How are they ever going to replace Brooks and Dunn!?!
Is George Strait still available? Maybe the Allman Brothers?

I hope the Ravens scoop up Brooks. There will be a bidding war for his services probally. He wont be out of a job for long.

I could see Detroit picking up Cato June. He is not that bad of a lineback and it would add some depth to their LB corps. The Texans come to mind also as a team that might look at a veteran LB.

It's not even like the Bucs are in a cash strap and trying to find some wiggle room. They already had $55 million of cap space!! What are they going to do with this extra money? Buy up every single free agent available? They might need to in order to compete next year...

I know Tampa is entering the FA season with the most cap space in "history", I assume these moves also play into that as well. Will be interesting to see the results of this over the next couple of years, whether they play it well or if their moves explode in their faces.

****???? Come on Bucs, you went down this road a few years ago and cut Sapp and Lynch. I am sure Brooks was one of the guys who stood up for Morris and probably said good things about him which helped him get the job. Its a sad day for bucs fans.

First thing I thought when I saw they cut Brooks was that he's gonna be starting in the middle for the Patriots next year.
