That way, a team like the Bucs, who locked up their weak division early, would still have something to play for throughout the stretch. If the regular season record mattered more, teams might not be resting their starters because they would be jostling for home field advantage. This would make the tickets holders happy because week 15 and 16 wouldn't be just glorified pre-season games.
