Aside from fan voting for the final two spots, the American and National League all-star rosters are set for the July 13 Midsummer Classic at Angel Stadium. All this begs the following questions:

**Who was the American League's biggest all-star snub among the hitters? What about the Senior Circuit?

**Which American League hitter -- Michael Young, Kevin Youkilis, Nick Swisher, Delmon Young, Paul Konerko -- deserves to win the fans' pick on the AL team?

**And which candidate -- Carlos Gonzalez, Heath Bell, Billy Wagner, Joey Votto, Ryan Zimmerman -- warrants the fans' choice in the National League?

**Was Omar Infante a justifiable selection in the National League, despite his middling numbers (.311 average, .343 OBP, 1 HR, 22 RBIs, 23 runs, 3 steals) and that fellow Brave Martin Prado could handle the duties at either second base, shortstop or third base in the All-Star Game? Should Votto have made the squad over Infante, or is this not an apples-for-apples debate?

**Who should start at second base for the injured Chase Utley -- Atlanta's Prado or Cincinnati's Brandon Phillips?

**Who was the biggest pitching snub? San Francisco's Matt Cain? Detroit's Justin Verlander? Toronto's Ricky Romero? Anaheim's Jered Weaver? Or Washington rookie Stephen Strasburg?

**Which National League starter should get the ball first next Tuesday -- Ubaldo Jimenez, Josh Johnson, Tim Lincecum, Roy Halladay, Tim Hudson, Chris Carpenter or Adam Wainwright?

**And which AL pitcher has likely earned the starting nod in the All-Star Game -- CC Sabathia, David Price, Jon Lester, Cliff Lee, Trevor Cahill, Fausto Carmona or Phil Hughes?

**Who will win this year's All-Star Game? And do you like the winning club getting home-field advantage for the World Series?

We want to hear from you, the reader, on the above topics ... or anything else pertaining to next week's Midsummer Classic.

Do we really need this many all-stars? Are even half deserving this year? So many young and exciting players and we are stuck with the same players who repeatedly get on because they live in large market cities or they have a name. They might not have the #'s, but the name. Guess there is a reason I don't watch it and don't care about it. It should be a game played at the end of the year when everyone who is deserving and played hard and have the numbers to prove it get to play. I hate to say the fans should not get to vote on this..let the sports reporters and writers decide. They should be more impartial and fair then the fans voting for their hometown team players.

Why get upset about any of this? Kevin Youkilis could very well be the AL MVP right now. Yet he is not on the All Star team? Whatever, MLB doesn't take it seriously, why should we?

JOSH WILLINGHAM!!!!! The HAMMER was snubbed. Sure the Nationals aren't the best team in the league, but you can't ignore The HAMMER! WILLINGHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAM! Highest OBP of any Outfielder in the NL. HAMMER! HAMMER! HAMMER! You will be an all star to meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

July 5, 2010  01:52 AM ET

there is no way that Joey Votto does not deserve to be an all star more then Philidelphias Ryan Howard...Votto is tied for the national league lead with Albert Pujols with 19 homers, is in the top 10 in batting average, rbi's slugging pct and on base percentage but yet Manuel picks Howard because as he puts it Howard is my guy

The all star game has turned into a popularity contest at best. There will always be snubs, and whiners of snubs need to get over it! When you put the ballots in the hands of fans, this is what you get. The all star game is overrated and means absolutley nothing. I don't know a way to fix it but until something or someone comes up with a better way, deal with it...play ball!

Everyone is biased. The fans are biased. The Sports Writers are biased. The Managers are biased. And the Players are biased. So should we just plug the names and stats into computers and have them decide? The BCS has proven that even THAT solution is flawed. So just deal with whatever system is in place. Who deserves to go to the All Star Game and who doesn't is a debate that has gone on for as long as the All Star Game has existed.

July 5, 2010  07:36 AM ET

Youk could start at 3rd or 1st base. Travesty.

July 5, 2010  08:08 AM ET

Omar Infante has played all 4 infield positions, and two outfield positions, and isn't bad as a pinch hitter. I think that Charlie Manuel saw a very versatile player who may be very useful if the game goes a long time, since "it counts now." Get rid of the BS about the game meaning anything more than "a chance to see fan favorites play an exhibition game" and maybe there won't be these "questionable choices" by managers. And maybe one of you journalist twerps should ask Charlie Manuel WHY instead of condemning the choice and disrespecting a player that works his butt of to be of value to his team.

the fact that joey votto didn't make this team is ridiculous. its absurd. its asinine. he's having a brilliant season...not sure what else the guy has got to do to crack a roster spot...i dont care how deep the 1B position is in the NL...

Also...Cain and Romero have been snubbed....Cain gets NO support in SF and Romero has been the ace of a suprising Jays team that has kept it's head above water in the AL East...he deserved a nod.

Billy Butler deserves to be an All-Star. His problem is that he is a 1st Baseman, and there is no way he will ever outvote the like of Morneau, Tex, or Miggy. But he could have been taken instead of Ortiz as the DH. The same goes for David DeJesus, who while he is not the most deserving OF snub, he could have been taken over Jose Bautista, who is batting under .250, just like Ortiz...

July 5, 2010  02:12 PM ET

Honestly Wheres Carlos Marmol on the NL Rosters........What A Big Snub!!!!!!!!

July 5, 2010  03:40 PM ET

10-2 Pelfrey doesn't make the cut--- shows how much this game means to baseball... What a waste of time--- MLB is headed to the toilet..

July 5, 2010  04:01 PM ET

Go back to 2 games--the first with strictly fan choices for an exhibition contest. The second one to determine home field advantage in the WS with rosters from secret ballots of all players, coaches and front office personnell men.

kevin youk-bighead is so over rated...mvp? is that a joke???

"**Who will win this year's All-Star Game? And do you like the winning club getting home-field advantage for the World Series?"

The AL win. I am sticking with AL until I am finally wrong. YES! I do like the winning club getting the home-field advantage.

"**And which candidate -- Carlos Gonzalez, Heath Bell, Billy Wagner, Joey Votto, Ryan Zimmerman -- warrants the fans' choice in the National League?"

Joey Votto

"**Which National League starter should get the ball first next Tuesday -- Ubaldo Jimenez, Josh Johnson, Tim Lincecum, Roy Halladay, Tim Hudson, Chris Carpenter or Adam Wainwright?"

Ubaldo Jimenez
