pdrive, you tell a defensive coach that he should practice taking the QBs feelings into consideration and see how well that goes over. Its an aggressive game, and you expect people to practice how to not hit someone>

my guess is most, if not all, of the people saying it was dirty have never played football (or any sport) at any level. if you're playing on D, in that situation your job is to get to the QB. You fight and claw for every inch, you dont, and cant, think every play "what if i hurt this guy." He "should have known" this and that, get out with that bull. If you are playing and thinking about stuff like that you wont make it to the league. Watch the play...it was a split second decision to try and tackle Brady, do you really think he had a conversation with himself during that time?

QB's know what they signed up for when they started playing, and they get babied like no other. They also get paid and praised like no other. How many rules are put in place to protect the olinemen's knees? RBs get hit low all the time.

I'm the first one to call a bs play a bs play, but seriously, the guy was being blocked and tried to make a play. Brady stepped into the tackle. The league said it was clean, most of Brady's teammates said it was clean (once they actually watched it) but a bunch of keyboard All-Pros who have never even smelled the inside of a locker room get all upset because their Pats are screwed or their fantasy team is shot.

This is football, not soccer or baseball or basketball.

a player is on the ground and and lunges at a Q.B knees and hits him helmet first that to me is a dirty hit but as long as it was a patriot player who got hurt then i guess it's o.k but when the tables are reversed i.e wilkork hitting losman
then it's dirty what a double standard

What bothers me about this play is basically that Pollard had to wrestle Sammy Morris off of him in order to take that lunge. If he was coming off a block and his momentum and gravity just ended up transforming the rush into a low lunge, that'd be unavoidable. But he did get blocked and ended up on the ground on his stomach, wrestling Morris off his back. As anyone thats ever been in a fight can testify, once you're on the ground you tend to stay on the ground. Pollard should have known he wouldn't be able to get back up to a level above the knees with Morris hanging on him and shouldn't have attempted that low lunge. I know: it happens so fast that how's anyone supposed to think that quick? Well you can't, you have to practice it. And if the rules were more specific on addressing low hits on QBs, which produce probably the most serious injuries in the NFL, then you can be damn sure that not attempting maneuvers like Pollard's lunge would get hammered home during practice. OK! Now everyone tell me how wrong I am!

Typical sanctimonious Patriots. From the "tuck rule" game with the Raiders to the Ravens game last year, they've been granted more than their share of good breaks these past few years. Law of averages....karma...whatever, but things even out eventually, so Patriots should cut the whining. Lots of class, yet again, Billicheck. By the way, get ready to defend many of Rodney Harrison's tackles...

DIRTY PLAY: There was an NFL rule change in 2006 which indicated "If possible, rushing defenders must make a conscious effort to avoid low hits on the quarterback. Previously, defenders were not compelled to make a conscious effort to avoid low hits on a quarterback if momentum was a factor. Penalty: roughing the passer, loss of fifteen yards.
DisplacedPatsFan | 09/09/08, 11:08 AM

Concious effort? The blocker was as much a part of the problem as the defender. Two guys did their best to beat each other, the blocker tried to keep him on the ground not a allowing him above the waste. Get over it, your like one 5 people who think it was dirty

Making a "LUNGE" FROM THE GROUND into the shins of Brady is clean? Ya, that's a heck of a text book tackle -- it's not dirty - it's CHICKENSH!T
StinkyPinky | 09/08/08,

What a stupid comment, Pollard got blocked and fought his way to the QB. Its not dirty at all, how you play. You dont lay down and give up when someone gets you to the grown, you fight on, thats what makes sports sports... If the ball gets stolen from Any basketball player are they suppose to just watch the guy race off to the other end an get on sportscenter especially in a close game? Of course not, they try to run them down and do anything they can to stop the play. If thats your out look on football, and professional sports in general just stop watching

By now, you've probably seen the replay of Chiefs safety Bernard Pollard's hit on Patriots quarterback Tom Brady.

Randy Moss thought the hit wasn't clean: "To me, personally, it looked dirty to me," Moss told the Kansas City Star.

Pollard, though, said his intent was not to injure, telling SI.com's Peter King: "It was most definitely a clean play. It was an accident. It's tough. It's football. I'm sorry it happened, obviously. I can't do anything but apologize to him."

Our question to you: Was it a clean hit, or was it dirty? Let us know in the comments below.
