SI.com's Ian Thomsen has revealed his first NBA Mock Draft, one day after the Chicago Bulls beat long odds to land the No. 1 pick. Thomsen forecasts six freshmen being selected in the top 10, including Kansas State's Michael Beasley to the Bulls and Memphis' Derrick Rose to the Miami Heat at No. 2.

Now that the order is set, what are your thoughts on the draft? Should the Bulls take Beasley or Chicago native Rose with the first pick? After the consensus top two, who is the next-best prospect? How would you assess the overall strength of the draft? Weigh in with your take below.

May 21, 2008  02:19 PM ET

I'm a Bulls fan and I'm hoping for Rose. It's a point guard's game now that hand checking is no longer allowed. He's fast and could be the next CP3.

May 21, 2008  02:41 PM ET

If you look at the last few years draft, how many teams are now in the top of the league after they took a 'high scorer'. not many all of the top team have a great point guard: CP3, Williams, Parker, Billups thats the way to win there is no doubt that they should take Rose.

May 21, 2008  02:59 PM ET

Are you sure Derrick is going to be that elite point guard? And no way is Billups a premier point guard. What about other premier point guards that are at home right now? Nash, Derron Williams, Kidd, etc... You have failed to forget that PF's such as Duncan, KG, Rasheed, and Gasol have played bigger roles for there respective teams this season than their point guards. The safe bet is to take a big, physical, and strong power forward and surround him with above average talent because he makes everybody around him better. Beasley has to be #1!

May 21, 2008  03:04 PM ET

If I'm Chicago you take Michael Beaely... it's a no brainer. Last time I cheked, a Dominant big man who can score and rebound is what makes the difference. Deron Williams, Chris Paul, Steve Nash are all sitting home right now while KG , Duncan and Gasol are moving on. The bulls have a good point gaurd in Hinrich who plays good defense add Beasely to a mix of Deng , Nocioni, Ben Gorndon , duhon and Hinrich.....and you have the dominant scorer/rebunder who would command double teams, making Nocioni, hinrich, and Gordon wayyy more effective by gettng them open. Oh yeah,,, Luol Deng will also benefit from Beasely double teams.....

May 21, 2008  04:08 PM ET

Beasley has more upside than Rose?? That's absurd. Rose is a complete freak. You look at Beasley and you see a prototypical power forward in the Chris Webber/Raheed Wallace mold. But there's no one like Rose in the NBA. His combination of speed/quickness, vertical athleticism, finishing ability around the rim and in the midrange, and passing instincts are absolutely unique. There is NO ONE in the NBA who brings all of those elements to the table.

The Bulls decision really shouldn't have anything to with need. Beasley is all but a sure thing as a 20/10 power forward but Rose could be the best player in the league.

May 21, 2008  04:11 PM ET

both Duncan and Gasol have talented guards - wouldnt beasely play the same spot as deng? the Bulls needs scores so either rose or Beasely would be great.

would you pass up the next CP3 or Jason Kidd for the next what ( who is Beasly compared to again?)

Rose should help make his teammates better like steve nash.

why try to trade for the # 2 and draft both?

May 21, 2008  04:36 PM ET

Duncan, KG, Rasheed, and Gasol are also 6'11" or taller, whereas Beasley is a measly 6'9". Name the last dominant 6'9" PF who won a championship -- Karl Malone came close! Beasley's a classic tweener in the mold of Derrick Coleman, Antawn Jamison, Glenn Robinson, and Lamar Odom -- at best, he will project to an above average NBA career. Derrick Rose, on the other hand, has Tony Parker's/Chris Paul's speed, Gary Payton's size (Payton was also a legit low-post presence.), Dwyane Wade's athleticism, and Jason Kidd's court vision. Rose is what Shaun Livingston was supposed to become, only Rose has already proven it at the college level.

May 21, 2008  04:41 PM ET

Neptune - I would pass up the next Jason Kidd. Remind me again how many NBA championships he's won? He's also too whiny to last in Chicago. I am VERY surprised that so many Bulls fans have jumped on the Rose bandwagon so quickly only a few years after we drafted Tyrus Thomas (HUGE mistake at the time, worse now as we watch Brandon Roy--the safe pick--lead the reinvigorated 'Blazers team), a player who "wowed" in the tournament but was otherwise unimpressive. AND I'm tired of people talking about superior athleticism. Last year's draft ALL Jay Bilas said about ANY player was how they were "athletes," his code for a player who can jump and if that player ever develops good basketball knowledge, a shot, handles, etc. then they might be good. I'm tired of hearing/reading that. Beasley & Rose are both young. They are both athletic. Period.

May 21, 2008  04:47 PM ET

The Bulls already have a prospect in the PF position, Tyrus Thomas. They have Duhon and Hinrich at PG. They're both decent, but aren't going to make the Bulls a championship team anytime soon.

May 21, 2008  04:49 PM ET

Bay area Cubs (surprise) bullsbears fan - Hmm. So in your opinion Derrick Rose is an amalgam of Tony Parker, CP3, The Glove, DWade, & JKidd... while Beasley is the next Derreck Coleman, Antwan Jamison, Glenn Robinson, or Lamar Odom? That's the most retarded argument for drafting a player I've ever heard in my entire life. In my opinion Michael Beasley is a mix of Bill Russell, Pete Marovich, Larry Bird, LeBron James and Chris Bosh. Oh! I forgot. And he has already proven it at the college level.

May 21, 2008  04:50 PM ET

The draft is unfair to bottom 7 teams. Although Chicago had only 1.7%% chance, the chances of a team from 8th to 14th to steal the no. 1 draft is 8.2%; no. 2 is 9.6% and no. 3 is 11.6%. That combined percentage is not statistically insignificant. To be fair, the draft should only include a few teams, perhaps the bottom 7.

May 21, 2008  04:57 PM ET

Let's not compare Beasley to greats like Russell, Bird, Maravich, and James.

In my opinion, both Rose and Beasley are sublimely talented players. I'd pick the one which fills the need for my team, and in the Bulls case, I believe that it's Rose.

May 21, 2008  05:03 PM ET

Sarcasm hamelstoe. Although two things: what DON'T the Bulls need? and I'd argue that LeBron James isn't at that (Pete, Bird, Russell) level yet.

May 21, 2008  05:36 PM ET

The Bulls should select Rose. I know that prior to the tourney that Beasley was the consensus #1 pick however Rose has a winners mentality and showed that by basically delivering a National Champonship as a freshman. Rose played his highschool ball in Chicago and went to Memphis because he wanted to contend whereas Beasley went to K State knowing that he would instantly become the BMOC. Also consider the fact that John Paxson has shown a trend of selecting high character players that are coming off Final 4 appearances.

In closing Rose is being compared to the likes of D Wade, CP-3, J-Kidd, Derron Williams while Beasley has been compared to Amare, Antwan Jamison, Derrick Coleman and Melo. Correct me if I am wrong but isn't Melo currently being shopped around because although he can deliver 20/10 a game he dogs it on defense and cannot get passed the 1st round?

May 21, 2008  05:51 PM ET

Looking @ this mock draft, why would Charlotte select a PG when they've got Felton? That makes no sense!!

May 21, 2008  06:07 PM ET

umm Beasley #1 ... umm no I'm a bulls fan, been one my whole life ... to go for the "greatest thing" we've been there done that ie.. Tyrus Thomas(jury still out) but what we lack is certainty and right now Rose is the most certain player in the draft to contribute to aspiring playoff team, and with the addition of rose and the abundance of back court players ... we have trade bait YEAHHHH... and for some reason Rose and Larry Hughes in the backcourt sounds like it could be a monstor .... especially defensively(if Larry wants to play)

May 21, 2008  06:11 PM ET

The idiocy of this thread is absolutely mind-numbing. Beasley dominated the Big 12 - wow. If you wanna say that he's already proven himself at the college level, go ahead and say that Eric Gordon (who led the Big 10 - a tougher conf., in scoring) is also up there with the likes of Bill Russell - lol.

Also, it really doesn't matter who the Bulls pick first, since their joke of a GM will immediately trade Rose or Beasley away for some ridiculous over-rated and overpaid player that won't pan out in a year or two, and Rose/Beasley will go on to flourish somewhere beyond the port-a-pot that is Chicago since Jordan left. Elton Brand what?

On a final note, WindyCityFlyer, I cannot think of a more conflicting comparison than Amare (a skinny post guy), Antawn Jamison (a shooter/driver), Derrick Coleman (a fat overrated player), and Melo (who's really not that great at anything, other than starting trouble. So..I guess you're saying that Beasley is a skinny post guy who can shoot but is fat and also gets into alot of trouble?

May 21, 2008  06:18 PM ET

Robin Lopez no place in the top 30!! this kid can start on most teams right now and have a defensive impact, would like to see the Knicks trade down and take him!!!

May 21, 2008  06:50 PM ET

im a bulls fan and a wisconsin badger fan and if the wisconsin badgers shut down beasley in the tourney any nba team can shut him down im hopin for rose

May 21, 2008  06:51 PM ET

Bulls should take Derrick Rose!! The point about Deron Williams, CP3 and Nash being at home while Duncan, Gasol, and Garnett are still in the playoffs is a misconception. Duncan is only still in the playoffs because of Parker and Ginobli (check out their PPG in the series - far better than Duncan's, Duncan struggled in the series), Kobe and their bench is why the Lakers have moved on in the playoffs - not Pau Gasol, and Garnett has only survived because Paul Pierce went crazy in scoring in Game 7. Although, big men on the remaining playoff teams are an integral, important part. The Bulls don't have a point guard that can lead and make the other players better around them. I believe the Bull's point guards have hinder the development of guys like Tyrus Thomas, Aaron Gray, Deng, and Gooden.
