Which opposing player scares you the most to play against?

Kobe Bryant, Lakers G...... 35%
Shaquille O'Neal, Suns C...... 12%
Kevin Garnett, Celtics F...... 6%
LeBron James, Cavs F...... 4%
Dwight Howard, Magic C...... 4%
Allen Iverson, Nuggets G...... 4%
Tim Duncan, Spurs F...... 4%
Steve Nash, Suns G...... 4%
Tracy McGrady, Rockets G...... 2%
Dirk Nowitzki, Mavericks F...... 4%

[Based on a survey of 242 NBA Players]

FAST FACTS: Poll was completed before O'Neal was traded from the Heat to the Suns last week.... Bryant particularly unnerves forwards, who gave him more than 41% of their vote.... Among players 35 and older, 63% voted for Bryant, who led the league in points, field goals and field goal attempts this season, as well as the last two.

This is an expanded version of the NBA poll from the February 18, 2008 issue of Sports Illustrated.

What's your take on this poll?

March 4, 2008  01:47 PM ET

Year in, year out, despite all the hatred some people harbor for him, I have been amazed by Kobe's skills.

March 4, 2008  03:23 PM ET

OF COURSE, naturally he is the most feared. He is the best player on the planet! Give him another 3-4 years and hopefully a couple of rings, he maybe considered the Greatest Player Ever! He has a great chance, he might even be the greatest this year...his skills are ridiculous, never seen before. Scores at will, no one can stop him, and his passion to WIN is uncomprimised!

March 4, 2008  04:35 PM ET

Im pretty sure lebron James has beat kobe in nearly every one of their head to head match-ups. If there is any player truly unstoppable, It would have to be James.

March 5, 2008  01:51 AM ET

hmmm... turn on the lights roll the ball on the court Duncan 20 and 10. two MVP, 4 nba titles and just as important to his team as kobe. kobe three titles ( none with out a certian dominant presence in the low post) no MVP and one nasty little incident in colorado. while kobe is a great scorer that does not mean the best player. I'll take Duncan over bryant especially in the character department.

James4MVP,

LeBron and the Cavs also won all 4 regular season matchups against the Spurs last year.

And we know how that went.

March 5, 2008  01:28 PM ET

lebron and the cavs could not have won all 4 regular season matchups last year, because they only meet twice in the regular season

March 5, 2008  02:51 PM ET

Yeah, Kobe kills people the look in his eyes, scares anyone with a look of a rapist

March 5, 2008  05:23 PM ET

STICK TO THE TOPIC PEOPLE! THIS MOST CERTAINLY WAS NOT A KOBE VS. LEBRON DEBATE....THIS WAS A SURVEY!

Also, the Kobe is a rapist comments are getting ridiculous...first of all. charges were dropped, second of all, it has nothing to do with basketball..third, when will people just admit that this girl was looking for a meal ticket with her dirty panties? I wonder do these same people send hate mail to the Duke Lacrosse players who were "accused" of rape......

March 6, 2008  11:35 AM ET

OJ Killed a Lady, but was a great RB. Just because he got off doesn't mean he didn't do it. There was a TON of evidence that said that Kobe DID rape that woman. If not for a payoff, Kobe would be in prison where he belongs. A

Also, when a person is an idiot, like Kobe is, then the general public doesn't like to give that person ANY accolades, as they don't believe he deserves it.

Kobe is an excellent basketball player...as is Shaq. But the vote shows that they garner votes from peers based on respect... not who they really fear! I can think of 5-10 big men who are a LOT better than Shaq right now... yet, he was #2 on the poll.

LeBron James is the ONLY player in the NBA who has entire defenses set-up to stop him.....yet he still is unstoppable. LeBron James is better than Kobe on the court and off the court. And the only reason that we, as posters, keep bringing-up the Kobe-vs-LeBron topic is due to the fact that ON THE COURT, Kobe is the only player that is comparable to LeBron. If Kobe wasn't a ignoramus off the court, then he'd be right there with LeBron in all discussions.

As it stands, LeBron is the single best basketball player in the world.

March 6, 2008  03:27 PM ET

Stop it with the Kobe vs LeBron stuff! Regular season matchups don't count seeing as to how LeBron and the Cavs swept the season series between the Spurs then completely fell off during the finals. So with that said until LeBron wins even one championship, he is not even in the same breath as Kobe. Now stop it with the Rape stuff the charges were DROPPED! Only a prosecuter can do this! Not the victim nor the defendant! Civil suits mean absolutely nothing! Unless your name is Vanessa Bryant and have been cheated on Stop Taking This Personal! Let's talk B-Ball!

March 7, 2008  08:18 AM ET

Lebron doesnt finish when he has too, sits out games 4 with a sprained non shooting pinky, doesn't have the heart/toughness to be the greatest. And let the Rape thing die, she dropped the civil suit too... She also had sex with 4 men that day, 4 different spooge samples in her panties... Ha thats alot of spooge, Bryant should be rediculed for taking sloppy 4ths haahahaha...

And why is Heathmalc saying the pole isnt really about who is the most feared? What are you retarded? Strap on your bike helmet, get on the short bus, and lick the window

March 8, 2008  01:01 PM ET

Some of you guys sound as if you have a 4th grade education. How did a poll turn into a court hearing? The fact is that Kobe is the best player in the world today. We cant compare Lebron and Bryant by who scores the most points in a game, becausewe all know who can score more points in one game. With that said, Lebron might be the best player in a few years. That will probably happen after Kobe retires.

March 8, 2008  01:01 PM ET

Lets get back to the oll.....Kobe is feared most by other NBA players. So with that said, your opinion really doesnt matter!!!

March 8, 2008  01:01 PM ET

the word is POLL...my bad

March 8, 2008  04:35 PM ET

Dudes u gotta remember, the question is who scares you the most. Not who is the best player. In my opinion Kobe is the best player in the league, but for argument sake, the reason he is the scariest is because he has consistanly shot fadeaways, dunked and crossoverd each player in a league for a consistant decade. When u play against someone amazing for the past 10 years you dont forget. Maybe in 10 years Lebron will get 100% of the vote, just not yet.
Plus Kobe is like a switch flip, you can imagine him takin an argument too far and bam...ur on your back seein stars, and no the stars arent a double vision of Kobe coz hes already run to get his attorney.

March 9, 2008  01:43 PM ET

Got to be Kobe. He's got a better supporting cast than Lebron. Double on Lebron and try to let the others beat you. But the player that scares you the most...got to be Bruce Bowen. How can you not be afraid of the guy that is most likely to take out some of the best 2's and 3's in the game. Everybody has a fade away jumper yet guys still get injured because he steps in after the shot.

Over his career, I'd like to see how many guys spent time on the IR because of him.

heathmalc: "There was a TON of evidence that said that Kobe DID rape that woman."

What trial did you watch. The evidence was OVERWHELMINGLY AGAINST the GIRL. Before going to the police and after meeting with Kobe, she had sex with about 4 more different guys and there were multiple guys' semen on her underwear, and then bragged to her friends about it. (what real rape victim actually brags about it?) Second, she has a history of mental illness and attempted suicides, and a friend of hers said the girl once thought about suing a star for money. She was also caught lying under oath and changing her story (like the Duke case). Why do you think the girl dropped the case? Because she felt sorry for Kobe? It's because she obviously had no case and no chance against Kobe when she lost all credibility and all the evidence was against her. Know your facts before you think Kobe's a rapist.
