Next month SI will announce the 2007 Sportsman of the Year. It's a difficult choice; that is why, for the fourth consecutive year, SI writers have contributed a series of essays on who they think deserves the magazine's highest honor.

Over the next three weeks some 40 My Sportsman essays will appear on SI.com. Tell us below what you think of our candidates and who you think should be SI's Sportsman of the Year.

Tony Dung hands down should be SI's sportsman of the Year. What he has done, on the football field and off after enduring what has to be the most difficult of tragedies, is nothing short of remarkable.

It's too bad SI will get the award wrong again and not give it to this very deserving candidate.

Bill Belichick. The spygate idea was fantastic. Just kidding. Uhh...this is a tough decision. I really don't know who to choose. Billy Donovan would be a good pick. Josh Beckett was amazing this past year. I can't pick one. It's too hard. Good luck, SI.

If I say Tom Brady Im gonna sound like a homer, but Im gonna say it anyway.
Tom Brady.

As a lifelong Steeler fan, I'm happy to cast my vote for Mr. Dungy. He's been making Steeler fans proud since his time as a defensive back and one memorable day as a replacement quarterback for the Steelers.

damn tracy your such a homer. i vote Josh Beckett

Sidney Crosby: had one of the most amazing individual seasons anyone has had in any sport if you throw in the fact that he was 19, and is more influential in his sport than anyone else.

Tony Dungy is the best choice!

November 12, 2007  04:53 PM ET

I agree with Dungy. He's persevered through hard times in dealing with the death of his son and the fact that he coaches without cursing. That's a rare feat these days in high school ranks, let alone the pros. I think Tony Dungy personfies the word "sportsman."

Being from Tampa and having met him on 2 occasions, I whole heartedly agree with Tony as SoY. I remember the bad times in Tampa with the Bucs and the good when he was there. He is the rock that keeps the down up and the keeps the high flyers, somewhat down to earth.
He is one of the most humble, family oriented, god fearing men you will ever meet. This may sound wierd, but I feel bad in his presence because I am nowhere near the quality of person he is and I feel guitly.

Tony Dungy Steeler, Buc and Colt. The lucky people in these areas know that Dungy is a kind, giving man. He is not the kind of person you forget. He doesn't forget his friends and co-workers.
Tony is a good sport and carries himself with dignity, even throught the the worst times in his life. Tony would be an excellent choice.

Brady has had a great 3 month run, but for the entire year? No. Last time I saw Brady in money time he lost to the Colts. Sportsman of the Year is Tony Dungy.

Mikezin, grab a cold one, climb off that high horse, and pull up a chair. I'd guess that the reason SI's software nabs the word "****" is because in comments at SI it's often hurled as an insult - and no software on earth is smart enough to distinguish between contexts in which the word is being used as an insult, and contexts in which it is simply descriptive. You raise a fair question about Mr. Dungy, but I don't think it rises to the level of whether or not he is a model of sportsmanlike conduct.

Roger Federer.

I love Dundy, but giving him the award would be like giving an Oscar for best actor to Francis Ford Coppola.

Tony Dungee is more worthy than anyone else in any field of sport. A class act, a class person and a sportsman in every sense of the word. Tony Dungee gets my vote.

November 12, 2007  07:07 PM ET

Tony Dungee is definitely the sportsman of the year. Nobody else even comes close.

Tony Dungy is the new John Wooden, only better, more patient and overcoming great adversity....I'm all for Roger Federer, Tiger Woods, Tom Brady and Josh Beckett...bottom line, when it's all said and done, I want to take the Best Sportsman of the Year issue and read it to my kids and I want them to be inspired....won't you pick Tony?
