<body>Looking at this OBJECTIVELY for a moment... There are some very positive signs for Vick hidden in this guilty plea. His lawyers managed to do some semantic trickery to get the text &amp;quot;Vick didn't gamble&amp;quot; into the statement of fact accepted by prosecutors. Also, the prosecutors are expected to recommend the low end of the 12-18 month guideline.

In a best case scenario (for Vick), he gets 12 months, and Goodell doesn't push hard to investigate the gambling allegations, so he gets another 12 months from the league... he could be eligible to play again in 2009 or 2010. Don't think for an instant that no team would be willing to sign him, either; even if it was just as a backup or even as a publicity ploy to fill seats.

Things could still fall apart for Vick (he could get indicted by the local Virginia cops, Goodell could still determine he gambled and ban him for life, he could get the max 5-year sentence, etc.) but today's news, believe it or not, actually gives a ray of hope for Vick and his supporters.

Okay, now SUBJECTIVELY, what I think... I think I could have forgiven the dogfighting allegations themselves. As sick as it is that Vick didn't care about the dogs' feelings, at least I can *understand* the profit and competition motive. It's a like a loan shark who breaks people's legs if they don't pay -- he's a demented felon, but at least we can understand why he does what he does.

But the allegations of drowning, electrocuting, and deliberately torturing dogs for no reason whatsoever?? Unforgivable. Sadistic. To continue the loan shark analogy, this would be like a guy who breaks people's legs for fun. I can't even understand that kind of psycho.

One more thing: Regarding the player who killed a mother of two while DWI... I'm not going to attempt to defend that for an instant, but a little food for thought: While he did a terrible thing, his *intention* wasn't to kill another human being, it was only to get drunk. He didn't care how that affected other people, though, and for that he paid a price. Now Vick, he may have &amp;quot;only&amp;quot; killed dogs, but it was his *intention* to kill dogs. It wasn't an accident. It wasn't something that happened as a result of him failing to take responsibility. He simply woke up one morning and said, &amp;quot;Gee, I'm bored, I think I'm gonna electrocute some dogs.&amp;quot; There's a difference there.</body>

<body>It appears the NFL has become the premier training program for prisons across the country.
Here is an obvious question that isn't addressed in the media: why in the world would anyone want Michael Vick back in football?
He is the ultimate con-artist who has betrayed himself, the NFL, the commissioner of the NFL, Arthur Blank, his team, his family, and a variety of endorsement companies. Michael Vick is the victim of his own criminal mentality. Criminals always think they have &amp;quot;fooled&amp;quot; everyone, and can continue to do so. Of course, one must also ask why the public and media obsess about his possible rehabilitation and return to football. Maybe Michael Vick isn't the only one to have a warped view of life. What is it that makes the media obsess with criminals who enjoy playing everyone for suckers? Roger Goodell needs to take quick and decisive action to resolve this mess, once and forever. He must ban Michael Vick from football, forever, and forget about trying to help just another thug who enjoys killing for &amp;quot;sport.&amp;quot; There is no happy ending to this story.</body>

<body>M.V. STILL doesn't get it! won't admit to killing dogs or gambling, let the cards fall. This from ESPN Jemele Hill, right on brother!!!!

&amp;quot; An open letter addressed to ???young, black men,??? ESPN columnist Jemele Hill, who also is black, wrote:

???I caution you not to make Vick a martyr. Do not applaud him for taking his comeuppance like some modern-day gangster. Do not blame others for Vick???s predicament when he alone should be held accountable for his actions.

???Let this historic unraveling be a wake-up call for the young, black men caught up in the same lifestyle that claimed Vick. Let his prison sentence send the message that a continued allegiance to street culture successfully keeps young, black men frighteningly behind in American society.???</body>

<body>The latest denial by vick to not live up to the error of his ways and attempting to lye to a federal judge is proof positive that vick thinks he is above us all and that he has always been behind all of the dogfighing goings ons. Make no mistake , he would kill all who he thought was of no use to him or any who he thought to be one who could cause him problems including you my friend in the same way that he kills all of the dogs that he does not like. Noone has really got the message yet. This guy is a serial murder in the rough at the very least. In my mind he is worse because he is coward and a murder. Certainly not one who I would think an icon. The guy is a punk. Period. I have to bite my togue every time that I start thinking about the things that he has done. My interpretation of a federal judge is a man of unswerving character , morals and ethics and if vick is of the mind that he is going to treat this judge in the same way that he treats his dogs and friends and family I sincerely hope that he has made a grave mistake.</body>

<body>A Pit bull broke free from its chain and viciously attacked a mailman on the east side Wednesday afternoon.
Neighbors told Channel 3 Photographer Derek LaBeaud that they used shovels and a chain to wrestle the dog from the mailman, who was delivering mail on East 77 Street south of St. Clair.

Clearly, Vick was doing his civic duty and ridding the world of dangerous dogs. The man is hero!</body>

<body>I laugh at the recent NAACP qoute &amp;quot; We further ask the NFL, Falcons and the sponsors not to permanently ban Mr. Vick from his ability to bring hours of enjoyment to fans all over this country.&amp;quot; We shouldn't ban Michael Vick because he enjoyment to fans??? If this is the basis for reasoning then I might have to call BS. At this very moment I am not very entertained by him and he does not provide me with hours of enjoyment and I have to imagine this is the case for millions of other Americans. So now what if this argument doesn't pan out? Why else should MV be allowed to play in the NFL again? Should he because he's a role model? Because he's the face of the league? How about because he is another poor athlete that decided to throw everything away by making bad choices??? The problem here is entitlement. As an individual why is MV entitled to play football again?? He had his shot and he blew it. There is no questioning this. He opening admitted to taking part in unsavory actions. This is not speculation anymore. So why do we feel he is entitled to another shot at football???? Let me ask you this. Do you think that Jeffrey Skilling (Enron CEO) or Dennis Kozlowski (TYCO CEO), both of whom committed illegal acts and went to prision, should be allowed to run another company with employees. Mmmm, interesting question isn't it. Well, I???m inclined to say no both to them and Michael Vick. What these guys are entitled to is another shot at being a contributing member of society. They are entitled to continue on with their lives and enjoy all of the benefits that come with being free. They are also entitled to use their experience to help steer others away from the same dead end road that they traveled. This is what he is entitled too. Football was a special perk. People that screw up are not entitled to special perks. By allowing MV the opportunity to play in the NFL again we giving even more power to the very evil that we are trying to destroy. How do you teach ethics, values and social responsibility to those young black inner-city athlete when we can???t even make the distinction ourselves. If we want young kids to grow up instilled with these values then we have a responsibility to demonstrate it for them. Time to stop choosing entertainment over real life. 2nd and 3rd chances should be reserved for things other than Sunday football games. Let???s teach these young black men that being a good person is more important than being a good athlete. If your truly lucky your both.</body>

<body>Some valid points were mentioned in this article, especially those about the part about the political game of &amp;quot;racial gotcha&amp;quot;. This is definitely true I appreciate your sense to address this. Many other, more ratical voices choice to continue widening the racial divide. With respect to MW though I have to disagree with the NAACP. We are talking about football here not the right to live.
