Here are some morsels to savor as you continue to ponder why Barry Bonds was lighting a Christmas tree in early October:

• A woman has been charged with stalking Lakers forward Luke Walton. A spooked Walton said he hadn’t been eyed so hungrily since the last time Kobe noticed he had the ball.

• Jaguars WR Matt Jones will have his cocaine charge heard in drug court rather than the regular criminal system. And this is a surprise -- the judge is Ricky Williams.

• LSU defensive tackle Ricky Jean-Francois has caused controversy ahead of Saturday’s showdown with Florida QB Tim Tebow by saying the Tigers D hopes to “take him out of the game.” Tough words. Jean-Francois originally wanted to make Tebow cry, but then he realized the QB does that on his own anyway.

• The Clippers fired GM Elgin Baylor yesterday. Man, this economy is really getting brutal. Not even a guy with 22 lousy years running the worst franchise in pro sports history is safe.

• Giants WR Plaxico Burress has reportedly been dodging a bill for a rental car company for $1,759 in damages since June. I think this is just a simple misunderstanding, though. The rental company told Plax that he’s “responsible” for the charges, but he honestly doesn’t know the meaning of the word.

• Cubs reliever Carlos Marmol suffered minor injuries in a car accident early Tuesday in the Dominican Republic. It could have been a lot worse -- Marmol was actually fleeing the vehicle of Ambiorix Burgos.

• Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling says he might consider a comeback in the second half of the 2009 season. Hmmm, it’s not like the Red Sox righty to take the spotlight off his team during the playoffs. I figured he’d at least hold off on his announcement until the last game of the World Series.

• The Chinese Gymnastics Association has launched its own investigation into the ages of two members of the 2000 Olympic team. The smart money says the Chinese officials will find the gymnasts were of age -- or they won’t be found, period.

• This year’s Neiman Marcus Christmas Book is offering the end zones from Texas Stadium -- slated to close after the season -- for a cool $500,000 each. Finally, what to get the Ocho Cinco that has everything.

• Portland’s Greg Oden scored 13 points in just under 20 minutes last night in a sterling preseason debut. He’s also a fine humanitarian and kind to old ladies and children. And that’s really all I can say.
