I've always liked Carmelo Anthony. He provides some good comedy whether he means to or not. He's writing an Olympic Diary for The New York Times and in this installment, he talks about what it was like to meet Michael Phelps.

I've never heard Phelps compared to a shark, like Melo does. I've always heard more of the fish or dolphin comparison, but he is pretty ferocious, as I imagine sharks would be. Also, I enjoy Melo's comment about other countries' athletes "looking up" to him, LeBron James and Dwyane Wade. You have to wonder if he meant that literally or figuratively, in the role model sense. Or does he even know? It's very possible he's high off the er, smog in Beijing.

And in other NBA news, the 76ers' mascot Hip-Hop (who is, of course, a bunny) has been placed on the injured reserve list. Let's hope he makes a speedy recovery.

Here's my question to you: If you could re-pick and re-name the mascot of your favorite professional sports team, what/who would it be and why?

"Mr. Met" shows no imagination at all, whereas the new one . . . Oh, wait . . .

Steely McBeam. Do I really need to say why this name sucks?

Sir, reporting as ordered, sir! We just got back from a going away luncheon for a really good co-worker, hate to see him go. The office I work in used to have 35 people a few years ago. Now we are down to seven authorizations, with an actual body count of four right now. So four of us are supposed to be doing what 35 used to. Good thing we know how to work smarter, not harder.

is an "athlet" a mini athlete?

Used to be a Packer
Now he's a Jet

Somehow, I don't think Yao Ming will be looking up to any of them in any sense of the phrase.

not that there's anything wrong with that
team that plays together stays together
doesn't make him a bad guy

I would change the Bengals mascot - Who Dey. I would keep the tiger outfit, but instead of tiger stripes, I would give him prison stripes and rename him: Who Didit

OK, I recognize that this may cost me a future election, but since you're talking mascots, I always thought the Packers should be San Francisco's nickname.
