Here are some morsels to savor as you wonder what year it is that Kerry Collins is the starting QB for the only undefeated team in the NFL:

• Cowboys QB Tony Romo will miss four weeks after breaking his pinkie. Jessica Simpson said if it really meant that much to her boyfriend, she’d be happy to lend him hers. Though it turned out she was talking about his “binkie.”

• The Phillies took a 3-1 lead over the Dodgers in the NLCS after a come-from-behind 7-5 win Monday night in Los Angeles capped by a four-run eighth inning. Most Dodgers fans could only sit motionless during the late Philly rally. But give them a break -- they were still stuck in freeway traffic.

• The Colts have finally acknowledged that, back in the summer, QB Peyton Manning had a second surgery. Apparently it was performed with a magic scalpel up on the grassy knoll.

• Clemson’s Tommy Bowden resigned on Monday after a disappointing 3-3 start. Just goes to show that you can’t keep hiring these punk kids as head coaches. Right, Bobby Bowden?

• The fan who caught the final home run ball in Yankee Stadium, hit by catcher Jose Molina, will sell it at auction this weekend. We’re hearing that Molina really wants the ball. He’s even willing to barter one of the other Molina brothers.

Joey Chestnut downed 45 slices of pizza in 10 minutes on Sunday to win for first Famous Famiglia World Pizza Eating Championship in New York. Then on Sunday, Chestnut received skin grafts to repair the massive burns on the top of his mouth.

Magic Johnson has reportedly joined ESPN and ABC as a studio analyst this season. But come on -- how do we know he won’t be faking it?

• A Florida high school football team is taking heat for winning 91-0 over the weekend. Really, give them a break. Isn’t a relief for Floridians to resolve contests decisively on their own without getting the courts involved?

I just hope that they figure out a way to get a smaller cast for Tony. Geez...that thing they had on him on Sunday could be a lethal weapon.

The losing team said they were confused by the layout of the end zones and kept going into the wrong one.

Was his cast team colors? I mean you might want to talk to the vendor.

I read about this. The coach is getting a lot of hate mail.

Supporters of the opposing team are upset at him for running up the score. Nevermind that most of his starters sat out most, if not all, of the game.

And he's even getting a lot of hate mail from the parents of his players....because he didn't play them to help pad their stats.

Belichick wasn't involved was he?

And there was more than one surgeon.

If this were last week, I would have said he had a talent transplant with his brother, but I don't think that''l play now

You didn't hear about the 'magic scalpel?"

Arash(?) had this as his blog topic ... requesting a mercy rule. The fans may have needed it moreso than the players.

Read the last post Peaches, you're welcome on the spelling thing.

Ok, I'm out. See ya.

Peyton's knee was seen going, "Back and to the left, back and to the left."

There was no magic scalpel. Rumors of this magic scalpel are greatly exaggerated. They were actually discussing the magic scalp of El Duque

Mercy rule? They barely beat the spread. Could you imagine what would have happened if the coach cut it off completely at say... 85?

our high school games here have a 50 point rule. mostly for the 9 man teams. some teams play only one or two complete games a year until the playoffs.

Hmmm. If the surgery was performed with a "magic scalpel", he probably had the surgery in Salt Lake City...

He was actually talking about the Merci rule, which is where one team surrenders and refuses to hit the showers for a week.

What are the odds that Joey Chestnut will be doing Tums / Rolaids commercials? And how many of those tablets will he be able to eat in a thirty second spot?

I was wondering how long it would take you folks to go there. Fortunately, my guess was "exactly one comment."
