Each day during the noon hour, we'll offer five reading recommendations from around the Web.

1. Women Who Can Dunk and Duel (By Harvey Araton, The New York Times): Sparkplug Candice Parker speaks out after Tuesday night's dust-up at the Palace.

2. Danica Patrick plays her own sexist game (By Tom Knott, The Washington Times): This Times scribe has had enough of Patrick's self-victimization.

3. Stop picking on Beijing's Olympic mascots (By Seth Stevenson, Slate Magazine): Can you believe the Olympic mascots have been blamed for events like the Sichuan earthquake, the Olympic torch protests and the recent flooding?

4. The 7-foot-6 Vessel of China's Hopes (By Maureen Fan, The Washington Post): There's a heavy burden on the broad shoulders of Chinese national team centerpiece Yao Ming.

5. The balcony is closed (By Roger Ebert, The Chicago Sun-Times): It's the end of an era for the best-known living film critic. Here's a fond farewell.

After a week off the Sprint Cup is at Historic Indianapolis Motor Speedway (no relation). Only champions win here. And champions to be. Never an upset winner at Indy (have I dragged this out long enough yet?). So even though neither of my picks has won this year, they have both won a lot, and at Indy.
Tony Stewart or Jeff Gordon. As easy as that. This is too big a race for both of these guys to let it go. One of them will win.
And if it turns out that Kyle Busch wins I promise to have some really good excuse ready.

I'm with you on Gordon, Rick. Good read from Ebert.

Catch you all on Monday. I'm off to the 20th high school reunion.

I'd like to thank the unilingual Censotbot for the amount of swearing that was not ***-out in the "I am A Quebecois!" rant from the previous post.

Darn, Barzhac'd again!

July 25, 2008  12:38 PM ET

Dang it, did anyone catch my story on the last post?

July 25, 2008  12:39 PM ET

Yup.....

July 25, 2008  12:41 PM ET

Yep, that's a lot of pills from one place.

I don't watch the hockey game while doing it doggy style.

Damn, that would be a conflict for me. You are either not paying attention to the hockey game or not paying attention to...you guys know what I'm talking about.

July 25, 2008  12:41 PM ET

That was a good article about Yao Ming and the Chinese basketball fans.

I caught it. And I am simply appalled by it. Around here, Vicodin can go for anywhere up to $10/pill.

Kari, what isn't said, is that we wait until the intermission between periods, so it isn't DURING the hockey game.

$10 a pill?
I am in the wrong business.

That's subject to the strength of it, though. The 10/1000's can go for that much. The 5/500's are usually cheaper. $2-$5, depending on variables.

good...with all that distraction you won't notice the coldness of the beer bottle on your back. And hopefully the chip bowl won't spill...

Well, obviously for the intermission, Chris. Duh.

July 25, 2008  12:46 PM ET

Rick, I think you are picking true long shots for Indy. I will pick... let's see... ummm... Carl Edwards to win!

If your not paying attention to the latter either you're not doing it right or you're doing it with Mr. Wrong.

Turn off the TV for the entire game, and it's one really long intermission.
