Each day during the noon hour, we'll offer five reading recommendations from around the Web. Our thanks to Bryan Graham for unearthing today's selections.
1. A 'Cleaner' of Athletes' Dirty Laundry (By Les Carpenter, Washington Post): Attorney David Cornwell is the Winston Wolfe (gratuitous Pulp Fiction reference) of the sports world, helping athletes resolve potential career-killing situations.
2. Do Dara Torres' secrets to success hold up? (By Amanda Schaffer, Slate Magazine): Do the Olympic swimmer's two "secrets" -- amino acid supplements and resistance stretching -- really explain her time-cheating performance?
3. Sports Media Accuracy Rankings (By Geoff Decker, whereIstand.com): Decker evaluates the preseason predictions of 42 media members at the All-Star break.
4. A Filipino Embrace (By Raphael Bartholomew, New York Times): Washington's Gilbert Arenas got the royal treatment in a recent trip to the Philippines.
5. Wii Sports Sequel Goes Tropical (By Jean Snow, Wired.com): The slowest sports day of the year turned out to be a pretty active day for sports video games at E3, the annual trade show for the gaming industry. Nintendo announced a sequel to their wildly popular Wii Sports launch title as well as Shaun White Snowboarding, which works with the Wii Fit balance board.

I heard that Wii is developing a game for adults only called Wilt's Score. They plan on using a combination of a twister layout and the Fit balance board to enhance the game experience.

I thought this was a great story leading into the Olympics. Now the naysayers out of the media come out and bash her. The article in SI last week said she has had extra testing because of this very thing. I do hope she proves the naysayers wrong.

Whatever Dara Torres is doing, she's doing it very, very well.
Truly an inspiration (and, eye-candy as a bonus)...

I can't equate myself with Dara for sure, but I ran my first marathon at age 40. Something just clicked. I trained harder and was in better shape than I had been in years. Maybe I had something to prove, but 40 is obviously not as old as it used to be.

I'd like to get a Wii, but it seems as if all the games (outside of Zelda) are just mini-games.

Tom, that's inspiring to us 40 somethings for sure. I'm still not trying to run that far though, hell, I get tired driving that far ...

I got so tired just hearing about him running a marathon that I had to walk really slowly to the break room to pick up another doughnut...

Not true AV....... you can get Madden, NCAA, Guitar Hero, and lots of other games for the Wii.
But the ones that Nintendo announces are all games created by them for the Wii and therefore unique, and tend to use the Wiimote in creative ways.

I would also like to get a Wii, but it seems they are not in stock and the price is just a bit too high right now.
