As some of you might recall, I took in last night's Mets-Nationals game with Daily News writer/Friend of the 10 Spot Jose Martinez. Another beautiful night in Flushing By The Bay got me thinking: Why do we all hear so much about the sainted Yankee Stadium's final year, but so little about the last hurrah of the temple that is Shea? Of course, many of you are also thinking: Why do we always have to hear so much about New York anyway?

The answers to that are a) Because of the media's New York (Yankee) bias and b) Because New York is the greatest city on earth.

In fact, Shea deserves a bigger send-off than Yankee Stadium because, well, it's flat-out a better ballpark. That's right, I said it. Let me count the ways:

10. Boasts cooler if little-known nickname as "House that Choo-Choo Coleman Constructed"

9. Nothing buried there but '07 Mets

8. Chipper Jones didn't name his kid "Yankee," did he?

7. Best large-scale use of color orange outside prison yards

6. Giant apple that popped up for home runs reminded kids to eat healthy -- once they finished overpriced coke and crackerjacks

5. With Bonds gone, Mr. Met is baseball's top huge-headed attraction

4. 24 fewer championship banners = improved sight lines

3. More-popular-than-Jesus Beatles played there, which according to the transubstantive property, trumps three Pope visits

2. Surrounding area dynamite for buying hubcaps

1. Absence of Yankee fans

"7. Best large-scale use of color orange outside prison yards"

There are going to be some UT fans who protest this one. Here's your comeback:

Why do University of Tennessee fans wear Orange?
So they can go to the football game on Saturday, go hunting on Sunday, and clean up trash on the highway on Monday.

"3. More-popular-than-Jesus Beatles played there, which according to the transubstantive property, trumps three Pope visits"

Amen.

Chipper Jones didn't name his kid "Yankee," did he?
The 10-Spot

I heard that he is going to name his next child after a ball-park that fits the child better than Shea. He is to be called Minute Maid...

Nice. I forgot the planes angle. Don't remember any last night, now that I think about it. Maybe they were all grounded for inspections.

14. To pass the time, you can also play "Name That Airplane" during games. My default answer is "727".
