A couple of pages ago I noticed yet another "M & M" reference, and that reminded me that someone had said something about brown M & M's a few days ago. Don't know if they still do it, but years ago, Van Halen had a clause in their contract that said a bowl of M &M's, with all the brown ones picked out, had to be in their dressing room before the concert. Silly stuff, but it turns out that there might have been a method to their madness. Every venue they played had its own unique characteristics, and any local issues would be addressed in the contract. The M & M clause was sort of a test to see how closely the contract issues were addressed. If they got a bowl of M & M's and the brown ones were not picked out, that was a clue that maybe other things had been ignored, too. What can I say, I have a veritable plethora of useless information in my head...
