Here are some items to ponder as baseball begins in earnest:

• All four No. 1 seeds have advanced to the Final Four for the first time. Favorites haven't advanced so easily since the last Caption This "contest."

• Davidson has its dramatic run ended by Kansas when a last-second shot missed the target. If only the 10th-seeded Wildcats had Tyler Hansbrough; he'd have willed the ball into the basket. Guess they just didn't want it bad enough.

• The last Opening Day in the history of Yankee Stadium is scheduled for today. A new park will open across the street next year. It will include many historic touches from the old stadium, including painstaking replicas of the concrete façade, Monument Park and the air of insufferability.

President Bush threw out the first pitch last night as the Nationals opened a new park of their own. Washington D.C. hadn't been so raucous since the last time Eliot Spitzer was in town.

Isiah Thomas says that Indiana University has not contacted him about its coaching position. Hey, not everyone's as clueless as Jimmy Dolan.

• The Olympic Torch relay began today in Beijing. And this is convenient -- carrying a lit torch happens to be the only way to see through China's air pollution.

If only the new Yankee stadium would retire Hank Steinbrenner's mouth.

This has proven to be a rumor started by the lone remaining Knicks fan in hopes that Isiah may leave voluntarily.

Here's hoping it's not like lighting a match in a powder keg. I'm surprised an open flame doesn't set the place on fire!

BK has not been contacted about the vacant IUGH job. The IU president will however provide him with GPS directions to Hades so no one will need to tell him where to go.

Not the literal last non-contest. The last one in a figurative sense.

Is this really the first time all 4 seeds advanced?

March 31, 2008  01:57 PM ET

all 4 first seeds*******

I think the "air of insufferability" will be borrowed by the NCAA selection committee.

Spitzer only paid $5,500; Beltway residents ended up paying $600,000,000 for the same "treatment."

FYI, my MS Word program and my Webster's New World Dictionary (Third College Edition) both claim that "insufferability" isn't a real word. Obviously they don't know many Yankees fans.

I guess he wants to go for the tri-fecta. First an entire league, then a franchise, now a college.

President Bush threw out the first pitch last night as the Nationals opened a new park of their own.

A buddy of mine went to oppening day. He said the new park is pretty sweet and definately beats the heck out of the concrete dungeon known as RFK. He reported that it was nice to have a stadium that actually serves good food - many local businesses have set up shop in the park. This is in stark contrast to RFK (which was completely catered by Aramark) and FedEx (which is dominated by a few sub-par chains). I assume he focused on the food because the Nationals were, well, terrible last year. However, I heard we won on a Zimmerman walk off! Go Nats!

Yes.

The set-ups are true; it's the punch lines that are made up.
