It seems the Oklahoma-Texas rivalry is even nastier than anyone thought. We're not even sure what to say about this story, so let's just get to what journalists call the "nut graph," with some very painful irony in this case:
"An Oklahoma City man has been charged with aggravated assault and battery, accused of causing extensive damage to another man's **** just because he wore a University of Texas shirt into a local bar."
SI.com's Stewart Mandel actually IM'd a link to this sordid tale a few hours ago, but we decided to wait until most readers had a chance to digest their lunch before we posted it.
According to court documents, the Longhorns fan walked into an Oklahoma City bar on June 17 and was met with a hail of insults from a surly Sooners supporter. When the Texas man tired of the abuse, he went to the bar after about 20 minutes to pay his tab. He says that when he turned around, the Sooner fan "grabbed his **** and refused to let go ... until (he) heard his **** tear and blood ran down his leg."
Gee, it's a good thing they stopped calling the annual Oklahoma-Texas football game the Red River Shootout (it's now the Red River Rivalry) to reduce violent imagery. How's that working out?
