These days, college football coaches must know more than Xs and Os. They have to be CEOs, surrogate parents, lobbyists and pitchmen. It's just that some do that last job better than others. Today, we bring you some of the finest coach commercials ever produced.
If you live in a college town, you see these ads all the time. The football coach is the biggest celebrity in 10 counties, and he hawks everything from jewelry to alarm systems. For those of you who live in those big, scary cities, enjoy a small taste of what we yokels out here in flyover country fast forward past while watching Ghost Whisperer on our DVRs.
The Coach O Hummer Commercial
Former Ole Miss coach Ed Orgeron's spot for the local Hummer dealership is the gold standard in coach commercials. Tell 'em, JoJo.
Sunshine State Showdown
If you coach football in the state of Florida, you'd better believe you're going to have to pitch some brand of orange juice. Florida State's Bobby Bowden and Florida's Urban Meyer can settle things on the field in three weeks, but for now, they're going to have to settle for a pitch-off.

Carpet Shopping With The Richts
This spot isn't even remotely believable. No way is Georgia coach Mark Richt going to travel to the epicenter of the floor-covering universe for a day and risk being set upon by deranged, Bulldog-loving Squidbillies. Although, the "Have you asked Damon Evans about that contract extension" look on Mrs. Richt's face as she examines the many varieties of shag is pretty pricless.
More Delicious Than Sacking The Quarterback
I was going to include this ad featuring Coastal Carolina coach Dave Bennett just so I could work the word "Chanticleers" into The Sweep. Then I pressed play. Now, I'm hoping he gets the Tennessee job just for the press conferences.
Not Really The Coach, But We Appreciate The Effort
Now that Mike Singletary has stolen his thunder, Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy probably never will see his rant tuned into a proper Coors Light commercial, but it makes a heck of a Toyota dealership ad. And it's also highly unlikely that Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez ever will film an ad in his home state again. That hasn't stopped West Virginians from venting their rage in the form of pleas to buy Chevy Cobalts.
