The first goal is to get to Atlanta and the second goal is to be in the national picture. And we're in the national picture."
• Robbi Pickeral, ACC Now: North Carolina athletic director Dick Baddour, on a report stating Butch Davis is the leading candidate to replace Phillip Fulmer at Tennessee: "Coach Davis has spoken clearly and loudly about his commitment to North Carolina." Davis was asked Sunday about the report and referred to an earlier answer when he said that "my family and I are very happy in Chapel Hill."
• Chris Dufresne, Los Angeles Times: Not even USC's top-ranked defense has given the Trojans much traction in the Bowl Championship Series standings.
• Gil LeBreton, Fort Worth Star-Telegram: He has a problem with so-called fan websites, which allow their visitors to post uncensored messages under assumed, often ridiculous nicknames. Then there was the "report" last week on a Kansas State fan site that said Texas Christian's Gary Patterson was set to become the next coach of the Wildcats.
• Austin American-Statesman: Texas' Mack Brown, who booted center Buck Burnette off the team last week for posting a racial slur on his Facebook page, spells out the Longhorns' policy on social-networking sites.
• Pete Pelegrin, Miami Herald: More proof there are too many bowl games: Florida International is talking about earning a berth to a postseason game.
• Jake Curtis, San Francisco Chronicle: The big loser in the BCS? It might be the Rose Bowl, which could end up with a rematch of Penn State and Oregon State or Ohio State and USC.
• Stephen Tsai, Honolulu Advertiser: Hawaii coaches are extending their stay on the mainland in an effort to boost recruiting efforts. The Warriors don't play again until a Nov. 22 home game against Idaho.
• Brandon George, Dallas Morning News: Texas Tech is cashing in. Officials announced a five-year, $11 million agreement that designates Under Armour as the university's exclusive performance footwear and apparel outfitter.
