Ian R. Rapoport, Birmingham News: How much was Alabama's victory over Louisiana State worth to Nick Saban? It clinched a spot in the Southeastern Conference title game for the Crimson Tide and triggered a clause in the coach's contract that will pay him $75,000. If Saban meets all the incentives in his contract, including winning the Bowl Championship Series title, he could net an extra $600,000.

Paul Finebaum, Mobile Press-Register: All of those LSU fans who claimed not to care when Saban arrived at Alabama in January 2007 are now stuck in the mud with his successor -- Lester Miles. Good luck.

J.P. Giglio, Raleigh News & Observer: Butch Davis' future is bigger than Tennessee. Here are four jobs the North Carolina coach would consider, and the opening in Knoxville is not on the list.

Daniel Lyght, Fresno Bee: Fresno State's Pat Hill said he is not concerned about his job status. The Bulldogs, thought to be a darkhorse for a BCS bowl, are a disappointing 5-4.

Alan Trubow, Austin American-Statesman: Backup center Buck Burnette, who was dismissed from Texas' team after posting a racial slur on his Facebook page, has left school, according to his father.

Kirk Bohls, Austin American-Statesman: Trying to make sense why many of the 61 coaches who vote in the USA Today poll are showing Texas no love and ranking Oklahoma above it. If the Sooners overtake the Longhorns, that's dead wrong.

Mike Hlas, Cedar Rapids Gazette: The Hlist: America's most-craved college football roundup.

Scott Wolf, Los Angeles Daily News: With the season drawing to a close, there are now 52 bowl-eligible teams for the 68 bowl spots.

Bob Condotta, Seattle Times: Rick Neuheisel, who brings his UCLA Bruins to Seattle on Saturday to play his former team, apologized to Washington fans. "I just want the fans to know that I am truly sorry for the messiness of how things shook out [at the end]."

John Adams, Annenberg School of Journalism: Pete Carroll can complain all he wants about the BCS, but the USC coach has no one to blame but himself for the Pacific 10 Conference being awful.

Phil Stukenborg, Memphis Commerical Appeal: The injuries are piling up at Memphis, with coach Tommy West the latest to be hobbled. He is wearing a protective boot on his left foot.

B.G. Brooks, Rocky Mountain News: Cody Hawkins has likely won back the starting quarterback job at Colorado after sparking the team to a comeback victory over Iowa State.

John Hunt, Oregonian: Hot rumor going around Eugene has Oregon wearing all-black uniforms for Saturday's home game against Arizona.

National Football Post: Another shade of orange: Clemson could be interested in hiring Phillip Fulmer.

Heisman Pundit: Texas Tech's Graham Harrell continues to lead the race for the Heisman, with Texas' Colt McCoy second. If the Red Raiders win at Oklahoma, Harrell will likely take home the hardware.

Mike Bianchi, Orlando Sentinel: Are some Florida fans secretly rooting for Steve Spurrier to beat the Gators on Saturday?

Kyle Ringo, Boulder Daily Camera: What's the real story behind Kansas State's firing of Ron Prince? There has to be more meat on this turkey.

Patrick Reusse, Minneapolis Star Tribune: Texas Tech's rise to prominence started in 2006 when it rallied from a 31-point deficit and beat Minnesota, 44-41, in the Insight Bowl. Plus, a funny story about Leach on a 2006 visit to New York.

Alan Schmadtke, On Campus: A family member says the double homicide in the small Alabama town of Owassa had nothing to do with the LSU-Alabama game.

The Big Lead: There's a young fellow in Mississippi with the last name Favre, and he's setting high school football records.
