Southern Miss (6-6) vs. Troy (8-4)
Dec. 21, 8 p.m. ET, ESPN2
Reason To Watch: This is your best chance to see the second-most-successful sitting head coach in the state of Alabama. Troy coach Larry Blakeney, an always entertaining Auburn grad with a 144-72-1 record, wasn't considered by his alma mater because he had amassed too many actual wins. Which is a shame, because Blakeney would have held the finest press conferences in SEC history. Sadly, we'll still have to troop to Country's Bar-B-Q on Highway 231 in Troy -- I couldn't make this stuff up -- to hear Blakeney's pearls of wisdom at his weekly media luncheon.
Keep An Eye On: Southern Miss wide receiver DeAndre Brown. The 6-foot-6, 228-pound freshman from Ocean Springs, Miss., shocked recruitniks earlier this year when he picked the Golden Eagles over a host of SEC heavyweights. He didn't disappoint, either, catching 66 passes for 1,108 yards and 12 touchdowns.
Final Analysis: Fans disappointed in the cancellation of the Arena League season should tune in to get their offense fix. The teams combined to average 63.9 points a game, and with weeks to prepare to face lackluster defenses, they could crack triple digits in scoring. Southern Miss coach Larry Fedora is looking to whip the big boys for a few more recruits. He may have a better shot after his team closes its season with a fifth consecutive win.
The Pick: Southern Miss 38, Troy 35
