With one out and a man on third, the infield comes in to cut off the run, despite the fact that Japan still leads by two.

Evan Longoria at the plate against righty Takahiro Mahara.

After a fastball outside, Mahara gets strike one looking on a fastball down the middle and strike two swinging on a 96 mph fastball in the zone. Longoria then fouls a 95 mph fastball straight back nearly taking off the home plate umpire Paul Emmel's head. Longoria then takes a splitter low for ball two, but swings through another to strike out. That's a big out for Japan.

Brian Roberts is now up with two outs looking to get Mark DeRosa home and get the USA to within a run. He takes a fastball well outside for ball one, then another closer for ball two. On 2-0, he goes fishing after a splitter outside. He connects with the next splitter, but hits a soft grounder back to Mahara, who flips to first for the third out, stranding DeRosa.

Three outs left . . .
