Righty Joel Hanrahan is in for the USA.

Shane Victorino is in center in place of Curtis Granderson/Evan Longoria, thereby emptying the U.S. bench save for second catcher Chris Iannetta.

Kosuke Fukudome draws a walk to start the inning. Yasuyuki Kataoka goes in to run for Fukudome. Kenji Johhima bunts Kataoka to second. Kataoka then moves to third on a grounder to second by Akinori Iwamura. Munenori Kawasaki hits a grounder to Derek Jeter's right. Jeter fields the ball cleanly, but has to rush his throw and it's high. Mark DeRosa leaps and pulls it down, but his attempted swipe tag misses Kawasaki as Kataoka scores, making it 7-4 Japan.

Scot Shields is coming in to relieve Hanrahan.
