Colon didn't allow a fit over four innings Thursday night during a rehabilitation start for Triple-A Pawtucket.
Colon, who has been on the disabled list since June 17 with a lower back sprain, walked two, struck out two and threw 23 of 40 pitches for strikes. Pawtucket beat Syracuse 8-3. He topped out at 90 mph on the radar gun, consistently threw in the 88-89 range and allowed only one hard-hit ball. In four starts on his current rehab assignment, Colon is 0-1 with a 3.10 ERA, three walks and six strikeouts in 8 2-3 innings.
After Colon experienced a setback in his rehabilitation, the Red Sox said they won't be rushing his return, according to the Providence Journal.
Colon was expected to throw about 65 pitches on Friday in his third rehab outing for Triple-A Pawtucket, but he had to come out after one inning - and 17 pitches - because he was ill. The plan is for Colon to get his normal four days of rest and them return to the mound, said Boston manager Terry Francona. Colon, who is 4-2 with a 4.09 ERA in six starts, hasn't pitched since June 16 due to stiffness in his back.
