The Brewers activated closer Eric Gagne from the 15-day disabled list on Monday and optioned righty Mark DiFelice to Triple-A Nashville.
Gagne had been out since May 23 because of right rotator cuff tendinitis. Gagne, who won the 2003 NL Cy Young Award with the Los Angeles Dodgers, is 1-2 with a 6.98 ERA. He has 10 saves in 15 chances. Salomon Torres, who went 12-for-12 on save chances in Gagne's absence, will remain the Brewers' closer.
Gagne, out since May 21 with right rotator cuff tendinitis, threw a bullpen session Saturday that included 30 pitches and then throwing to a few hitters.
Brewers manager Ned Yost said Gagne was "real, real close" to returning. Gagne has a 6.98 ERA in 20 appearances this year, blowing five of 15 save opportunities.
