The Rockies recalled left-handed reliever Cedrick Bowers from Triple-A Colorado Springs on Tuesday and optioned Speier.
Speier was 1-1 with a 4.13 ERA in 25 games for Colorado this season. In his last appearance, he faced two batters and gave up two runs and two hits in a 15-8 loss to San Diego on Monday night.
