I am going to go out on a limb here and say that Webb is the better pitcher. Verlander even threw a no-hitter this year but pitching is not about one game, it's about the entire season.

Brandon Webb has a career 3.22 ERA, and pitches an incredible amount of innings, 1,089 in the five years he has played in the majors. He has the filthiest sinker in MLB and batter never take their good bats to the plate.

Webb threw 3 shutouts in 06' and 3 in 07'. His career WHIP, SLG%, and OBA are all better than Verlanders.

People hail Verlander as the next great thing in baseball, while Webb gets little notice from anyone outside Arizona. I am here to argue that Webb IS the BETTER pitcher.

well du his SLG% is better he is in NL Verlander never bats. And how can you compare thes to NL is not even close to as good as AL.So everyday Verlander has harder opponents to face.

Slugging percentage, by the batters they face! Hello? On base average? By batters they face! Not the pitchers actually hitting themselves. LOL

Although Webb is a better hitter, He is 34 for 322 in his career with 18 rbi's, Verlander is 0 for 5. LOL

Verlander gets to play against the Devil Rays, Kansas City, Oakland, Minnesota, Baltimore, and so on. Those are very weak hitting teams with few real hitters. And the tigers are in a different division than the Red Sox and Yankees, so in fact HE DOESN't FACE THEM EVERY DAY! Verlander plays in a big, spacious park. Yet his era is higher at home than it is on the road. Hmm. 3.74 to 3.57.
He faced boston once this year and had a 2.35 era. in two starts against the yanks he went 2-0 with a 2.19 era. SO in fact, Verlander gives up more runs to the BAD TEAMS!!

Wow you stole my argument as you said.he went 2-0 against the YANKEES. He put a 2.35 ERA against the RED SOX. Wow I would love to see Webb do that.

I stole your argument? Damn, you are tricky. I thought it was my argument. Well, you must be a lot smarter than you present yourself as to get me to steal your argument. Wow. I feel humbled to be in your glorious presence. What an honor to td with you. Your facts are so accurate and you present them with such diginity and grace, it's really quite inspiring. Your logic is powerfull and your arguments persuasive and convicting. A real honor sir, best of luck in these last 24 hours we have together.

I think Bonds meant that his opponents SLG% against him is better, Live it Up Sports. I don't think he meant that Webb hits more home runs lol

Hey live you wanna finish up our Red Sox TD?

January 5, 2008  03:07 PM ET

Verlander pitched great against the 'good hitting' teams, so the argument that his era would be higher because he playes in the AL is null and void. He gave up more runs to the bad teams what does that say?

January 5, 2008  03:26 PM ET

Twins aren't a bad team. They're just streaky last year.

January 5, 2008  03:53 PM ET

I would say Verlander is better, and that he would be my choice. By, I have to vote to Bonds...the anti-drug because, well, live it up sports is very bad at arguing. VOTE TO <-----------

You said you didn't want our votes in the FanMail so I voted for Live IT UP.

Wait, were you kidding about that? Oh well...

January 5, 2008  05:40 PM ET

Actually, I've decided to do the right thing and vote for Bonds here.

January 5, 2008  05:53 PM ET

Verlander plays in the AL and Webb plays in the NL. The AL is a much more competitive league.

January 5, 2008  06:00 PM ET

Wow Bonds last argument,LOL

JagsStriiker1 hit the nail on the head

the NL is basically AAAA and the AL is the Major Leagues. Any good pitching stats in the NL should be taken with a grain of salt.

vote to bonds..just because live it up did a horrible job of arguing

Well, as a Tiger fan living in Arizona, I'll vote for Verlander and hope that I can watch the two go head-to-head in late October.
