I'm gonna say that they should add Notre Dame.I know a lot of people are saying that this is an obvious pick, but I think it makes since. Here are some points.
1.Notre Dame is not in a specific conference.
2.They play mostly Big Ten teams like Michigan and Michigan State annually.
3.It would really boost their performance level by putting them in a conference where they can compete for a conference championship.
4.They are regionally a perfect fit for the Big Ten.
I'll state more reasons and facts in the next arguements.

OK, I'm going to make two changes.
1. Change the name of the conference. Big Ten worked when there were ten teams. Now, there are 11, possibly 12. I propose the Great Lakes Conference. Ohio, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Indiana all border one of the Great Lakes.
2. I choose Syracuse. For one, New York also borders one of the Great Lakes. Second, it gives the Big Ten a pipeline into New York's massive television market. Third, while the Orange's football program has fallen on hard times recently, the conference will be boosted in respects of basketball and lacrosse.

Well Syracuse was actually on my list but I thought that Notre Dame complimented the conference better. Can you just imagine having powerhouse teams like Michigan,Wisconsin,Noter Dame, and Ohio State in the same conference. That would be insane!I would much rather prefer a team that has history, and thats actually gonna make the conference more competitve than a team like Syracuse that hasn't had a winning season since the prehistoric times.
Esco: Done w/ FN said 01/05, 05:05 PM
Notre Dame was #1 on my list, but you chose them.
Penn State has historically had a rivalry with Syracuse, but it has fallen off since PSU joined the Big Ten. Syracuse's joining the Big Ten would bring that back.
Syracuse is "New York's college". With the Orange bringing NYC's media market with them, the Big Ten's exposure would explode.
Being part of a more prestigious conference rather than the Big East, Syracuse would attract big-time recruits which would help turn around the program.
LarryFitzFan11 said 01/05, 05:11 PM
Well first-off,I though that the Big East was already a pretigious conference. With West Virginia,Rutgers,South Florida,Connecticut and others coming up.But anyways,Syracuse is already comfortable in the conference their in.They excell in Basketball and they always do good in their conference tournaments, why would they wanna change all that?Yeah, sure change it for a Football program that has not shown any improvement. To be honest,Syracuse seems like they shouldn't even be in the Big East. You can obviously tell, that they are a Basketball school.

Is Penn State geographically part of the region?
I like the picks, but I would've liked to have seen maybe an NDSU or SDSU jump to D 1-A, but since that's not likely...

I'm going to withhold a vote because I think neither ND nor SU should join. I'd argue for ND to join the Big East (they're in already for bball) and have the big ten change its name.

I always thought the Big East would be a better fit with NDs objectives - the smaller number of conference teams would allow them 5 games to continue to play many of their rivalries, just not as frequently
Syracuse has been the likely candidate. They tried to jump out of the Big East recently. They add a large audience, and I think (haven't looked up) they are similar in size, etc
NDSU - SDSU ae VERY small campuses in states with a small populous. I lived in ND - I think its population is about 650,000
Given that both arguments were very good, and ND continually rejects the idea, vote to Esco
Change the name - with 12 teams, Big12 already taken, so just drop the "1" and become the Big_2?

This is tough I think adding Notre Dame would be better from a competivitvness aspect, but adding Syracuse would really improve the marketing ability of the conference...I'm not really sure where to go with my vote. But thinking about it I think financially it will be way too hard to budge Notre Dame away from their independent status..my vote goes to Esco

Esco argued something I didn't expect to happen... an idea MUCH better than Notre Dame for a Big Ten expansion. The name change, too, is overdue, and Great Lakes works as well as any... especially bringing Syracuse... vote to Esco...

Vote to Fitzfan...Notre Dame just seems a perfect fit. They're already somewhat in the mix there, and geographically it beats Syracuse.
